Supporting a 1,200-acre campus, RED-Rochester has the utilities, infrastructure, technical services, support services, space and complementary regional resources to benefit a wide range of industry verticals. We are seeking a Wastewater Treatment Plant Process Engineer for the operation, maintenance and improvement of the Eastman Business Park Water Treatment Processes. This role is an important position on the RED-Rochester team providing engineering support to the Kings Landing Wastewater Treatment Plant. This critical infrastructure treats 10-12 million gallons per day at a traditional activated sludge plant with dissolved air floatation and multiple hearth incinerator and processes industrial wastewater from businesses at Eastman Business Park in Rochester.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with RED-Rochester s wastewater treatment plant operations and maintenance teams to operate and maintain the plant to be consistently in compliance with its regulatory permits including SPDES wastewater discharge permit, Title V air permit and RCRA hazardous waste permits
- Based on plant data, diagnose, analyze, and implement wastewater treatment process improvements to improve plant performance while managing costs
- Be involved in business development opportunities and on-boarding as it pertains to the wastewater treatment aspect of a new customer discharge at Eastman Business Park
- Lead and execute a wide range of capital equipment renewal and system upgrades in accordance with the King s Landing Master Plan
- Support growth on the Eastman Business Park and RED Rochester systems analyzing new customer wastewater discharge streams, identify ability of King s Landing systems to properly treat the wastewater streams, and identify any upgrades / pretreatment / modifications needed.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor s degree in Chemical or Environmental Engineering with understanding of biology
- Experience in activated sludge at an industrial wastewater treatment plant is preferred.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5-10 years experience in the wastewater operations, and environmental or chemical engineering. Interest in microbiology preferred
- Professional Engineers license preferred
- Proficient in MS Office Suite
- Ability to model or use modeling software to analyze the system performance
- Strong work ethic and organizational skills
- Advanced skill in written and verbal communication
- Advanced Interpersonal Skills able to work independently and in team environments.
Position Requirements:
- Provide daily technical and process oversight and guidance to the wastewater team
- Manage the chemical and biological treatment aspects of the wastewater treatment plant to maintain and improve overall plant performance
- Provide engineering solutions to various operational and/or maintenance problems
- Assist operations and maintenance staff with wastewater expertise in critical situations
- Develop and recommend new or update wastewater treatment plant standard and emergency operational procedures
- Assist EHS staff with permit required reporting and compliance concerns as required
- Managing Teams facilitating commitment and productivity, removing obstacles
- Good communications skills, both verbal and written across the RED-Rochester technical support, operations, and maintenance teams
- Skilled in the ability to manage engineering & environmental consultants, contractors, and vendors
- Ability to respond to off-hour emergency issues by phone or on plant

- Wastewater Treatment Plant facility and office environments.
- Must work at times in dirty and noisy areas.
