< **Visual Arts Teacher: High School Painting**

The Dalton Visual Arts Department seeks a dynamic and collaborative teacher for a full-time position beginning in late August 2022. Based on the pedagogy outlined in The Dalton Plan, the objectives of teaching at The Dalton School include: tailoring each student's program to individual needs, interests, and abilities; promoting independence and dependability, and enhancing the student's social skills and sense of responsibility towards others. The position will primarily teach high school (but there is the possibility of working with middle schoolers as a member of a cross-divisional department,) develop curriculum in collaboration with other faculty, and offer individualized studio work with students.

The Dalton School mission asserts our mindful emphasis on the visual arts. The art world and art movements of New York City buoy and connect our faculty and programming; many of our faculty are themselves practicing artists. The curriculum is constantly evolving to incorporate new ideas and opportunities, and the ideal candidate for this position will be excited to innovate and learn alongside our students. It is essential for all applicants to show clear commitment and demonstrated capacity to engage in pedagogical and curricular issues in support of our anti-racist and inclusive community.

We are looking for candidates with overall visual arts experience in 2d and 3d media, with a specialization in painting.

**Responsibilities**

* Teach painting courses to 9th through 12th grade students at beginner and advanced levels.

* Join a team of artists teaching a Visual Art Fundamentals course for 9th grade students.

* Support independent student work as part of our Advanced Visual Arts Studio class.

* Engage with school-wide community and activities, with the possibility of leadership opportunities.

* Collaboratively maintain and support our shared classrooms and equipment.

**Qualifications**

* An active visual art specialty and practice

* B.F.A. or BA required; Masters preferred

* 3 years teaching experience primarily at the MS/HS levels
