Position Union Porter Description Porters are responsible for the upkeep the building, including the grounds, common areas and apartments. They are responsible for ensuring vacant apartments are occupant ready.We have serveral builings across Manhattan with open positions available and are always looking to hire.The porter shall have the following duties and responsibilities:
  • Porters act as lunch or day-off relief for other employees in the building and should be thoroughly familiar with the duties of all other employees.
  • The work of a porter involves physical exertion, and in instances, may be dirty and messy. Care should be exercised to maintain as neat a personal appearance as possible without interfering with your work. All activity should be as quiet as possible.
  • Dirt and dust should be immediately cleaned up to avoid tracking through the building. After completing a job, promptly make your appearance as presentable as possible.
  • Porter cleaning supplies are kept in a special area in the basement, from which you will collect your supplies and will perform the following jobs as assigned daily, by your Superintendent.
  • Porters mop and/or vacuum lobby and public areas. Clean glass doors and windows, clean elevators. Wash door bucks. Collect bulk debris from service landing and remove debris from building for disposal. Clean, wash and wax service landings, clean and mop stairwells. Sweep, mop and clean all basement areas, including employee's locker room, utility rooms, laundry room, shop, etc. Dust door saddles, and wipe cover base. Change burned out bulbs in all public and service areas. Shovel snow. Report necessary repairs to the Superintendent.
  • Assist in moving articles or equipment for tenants when directed by the Superintendent. Put away luggage or transport the luggage for tenants as directed by the Superintendent. (Under no circumstances is any employee to store equipment for tenants). Hose and sweep sidewalks, polish brass, maintain exterior planting areas. Do minor painting, as directed.
  • Perform all of the maintenance and housekeeping as directed by Superintendent/Property Manager.
