Summary:

The Underwriter for the Residential and Consumer Lending Team, will underwrite consumer loans and retail residential mortgages ensuring compliance with Dimes program requirements. This role will evaluate consumer loan applications and line of credit increases, and underwrite credit based on Dimes program guidelines.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform credit underwriting for all consumer loan and line of credit applications.
  • Evaluate credit information, length and type of employment, salary, outstanding obligations, ability to repay, and past payment record provided by applicant and references.
  • Examine overall loan documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Perform credit underwriting for Retail residential mortgage applications.
  • Review loan-to-value ratios, credit reports and appraisal reports.
  • Analyze income/employment and review disclosures for compliance.
  • Ensure loan meets appropriate program requirements.
  • Ensure the Loan Processing staff procures appropriate information necessary to finalize incomplete loan packages.
  • Stay abreast of any changes in loan underwriting provisions
  • Recommend approval of limited exceptions and review with supervisor/manager.
  • Review all Adverse Action Notices for accuracy prior to mailing to consumers.
  • Handle telephone inquiries and correspondence regarding credit policies/decisions. Communicate with clients to effectively resolve underwriting issues.
  • Perform additional accountabilities as required.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting preferred or equivalent experience; or equivalent combination of education and education
  • Minimum three years consumer loan underwriting experience with lending authority preferred
  • Three years equivalent underwriting experience preferred
  • Full understanding of consumer loan products
  • Knowledge of consumer credit policies and procedures.
  • Good credit judgment and decision-making ability.
  • Ability to evaluate large volumes of loan applications
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; detail oriented.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
