Job Description: The Transfer Support Specialist position is the primary and initial point of contact for active SUNY-wide transfer initiatives. The specialist provides excellent customer service to students, faculty, and staff in person, by telephone, email, video conferences and chat. The specialist will work across technical and functional units to research, develop, implement, assess, and support SUNY-wide transfer and articulation initiatives and student support models.Reporting to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Articulation and Transfer, the Transfer Support Specialist will work closely with academic and technical colleagues at all levels of the University and will cultivate an understanding of transfer and articulation issues in higher education through examining current trends, technologies, and policies to inform and support their role.Specific Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Aid in further developing a nationally recognized model for transfer articulation.
  • Supporting data governance, data quality initiatives, and data collection initiatives related to transfer and articulation, prior learning and associated policies and practices.
  • Work to resolve issues while serving as a liaison between students, campuses, and various departments at SUNY System Administration and on campus.
  • Support the student transfer appeal process by assisting students and campus representatives and through the development of student-facing tools and procedures.
  • Provide technical support for the SUNY-Wide Reverse Transfer process and assist students and campuses in completing reverse transfer processes.
  • Provide technical support for the SUNY-Wide Cross-Registration process and assist students and campuses in navigating the steps of cross-registration and completing enrollment.
  • Work collaboratively with SUNY System Administration, SICAS, ITEC and campus stakeholders to support and further develop transfer technologies for use University-wide.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the SUNY-wide Transfer Articulation database.
  • Display excellent communication skills, sufficient to explain policies, procedures, and practices to student, faculty, staff, and SUNY System colleagues.
  • Serve on related committees and groups to support aligned projects and initiatives.
  • Develop training materials and provide professional development workshops for stakeholders.
Requirements: Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience supporting transfer students via transfer student advising and/or the assessment of transfer courses.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to work with appropriate internal and external constituencies to reach goals and develop policies, procedures, and tools.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality through having knowledge of FERPA and related state and federal regulations.
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills.
  • Demonstrated successful management of short- and long-term projects.
  • Strong time management, administrative and organizational skills.
  • Significant knowledge of campus business processes and technology.
  • The ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least 5 years of progressive experience higher education leadership, with a focus on advising, prior learning assessments/support, or transfer articulation.
  • At least five years of operational program management experience, preferably in higher education.
  • Experience with degree audit systems.
  • Experience within SUNY.
  • Knowledge of large-scale data systems, definitions, and procedures.
  • Proficiency using relational databases (e.g., Oracle, MySQL).
Additional Information:
  • Salary Grade: Senior Staff Assistant SL3
  • Salary is dependent on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, experience, education, training, and certifications. The salary range for this position is $73,000 - $85,000.
