Job Description:
Required Qualifications: As per Civil Service Standards and Specifications. Successful completion of a nationally accredited central service exam for central service technicians, AND current certification by a nationally accredited central sterile technician credentialing organization as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician, Central Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician or a substantially equivalent credential, AND either one year of permanent service as a Teaching Hospital Sterile Supply Technician 1 or one year of experience in cleaning, sterilizing, and maintaining medical supplies and equipment in a healthcare facility.Substitution: Applicants who do not hold a current central service technician certification may be considered if they possess one year of central service experience in a healthcare facility between January 1, 2011 and January 1, 2015.Preferred Qualifications:* Certificate or AAS Degree in electronics or related discipline* Ability to calibrate and inspect dental equipment* Familiarity with compressors, vacuum and water filtration systems* Experience with dental equipment* Experience in installing, assembling, repairing and maintaining dental equipment* Familiarity with Microsoft OfficeBrief Description of Duties: Teaching Hospital Sterile Supply Technician 2: non-competitive; full performance level; may supervise Teaching Hospital Sterile Supply Technicians with duties to include the following:* Responsibilities:*
  • Install, inspect, diagnose and repair dental equipment in a professional manner.* Install, calibrate, test, inspect, troubleshoot and repair general diagnostic and therapeutic imaging equipment and systems utilizing electronic test and measurement equipment and techniques.* Prioritize, respond to and document all repair requests in a timely manner.* Maintain clinic water filtration system according to guidelines.* Assist with the selection of new equipment purchases, installations, service contract negotiations and provide recommendations for capital equipment replacements.* Perform on-site system evaluations and diagnostics as needed to ensure compatibility of products with existing client hardware and software.* Conduct routine system checks and record data from product tests after installation and configuration.* Perform regular preventative maintenance system checks for clinical equipment.* Inventory Management:*
  • Work collaboratively with receiving department and warehouse personnel with regard to the repair, availability and maintenance of nitrous and oxygen units.* Responsible for hardware parts replacement, as well as software updates and calibrations related to dental equipment.* Build and maintain professional relationships with manufacturer's representatives to obtain the necessary technical product information.* Record Keeping:*
  • Complete all paperwork pertaining to installations.* Create and maintain a library of all owner manuals, warranties and installation checklists.* Maintain inventory of stock parts and tools.* Document and maintain accurate records of all inspections, repairs, adjustments, and other service performed on equipment; requests/orders necessary repair and spare parts according to established procedures and contract relationships* Procedures and Practices:*
  • Adhere to the Dental Care Center policies, procedures and directives regarding standards of completing job duties and assignments.* Assist in the training of faculty and clinical staff on the safe and proper use of equipment.* May provide input in the development of procedures, and protocols related to equipment.* Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.Special Notes: This is a full-time position, 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Mandatory rehire roster candidates have preference. As per Civil Service guidelines, Salary Grade 8 Hiring Rate $38,073 plus Geographic Pay $13,000 and Location Pay $3,087.Patient Contact: Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements: Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook University's Employee Health Services (The hiring department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination), clear a background investigation, submit (3) written reference, and provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
