Business Development Lead (PE/RLA Required)

Upstate NY (Rochester, Albany, Syracuse, Buffalo)

JK Executive Strategies is proud to partner with a global design services firm in search of a Business Development Lead (Internally Community Development Group Leader) to join its team! The Community Development (CD) Group Leader will lead the practice functions including top-line strategy and performance, design and project delivery excellence, business planning, market position, and innovation strategies. This position focuses on helping clients, colleagues and communities thrive and is an integral part of the team, supporting three offices in the up-state NY region.

The CD Group Leader reports to the CD Regional Business Leader (RBL) and provides leadership to the business development activities within the Business Center (BC), including direct supervision of CD team members who are highly engaged in winning work, driving design excellence, and growing market presence. The CD Group Leader partners with the BC Operations Leader (BCOL), the BC Practice Leader (BCPL), and as a member of the broader BC leadership team, to lead, manage, inspire and engage, win and do work building a culturally strong and high-performing business.

Responsibilities

Client & Project Focus

  • Exceeding client expectations by providing strong account management throughout the BC and personally leading accounts for major clients within the BC.
  • Taking the lead and actively participating in pursuits and campaigns for significant BC opportunities.
  • Leading the delivery of notable BC project pursuits.
  • Developing client relationship strategies in collaboration with the leadership team.
  • Actively contributing to the creation of written content for major projects.
  • Supervising risk management for projects and pursuits, which includes reviewing contracts, fees, and proposals for large pursuits in partnership with our risk management team.

Business Development & Collaboration

  • Playing an active role in devising winning strategies and ensuring successful project execution by being directly involved in key pursuits, client management, and project management.
  • Spearheading the growth of the CD Practice within the BC by formulating and implementing business development, key pursuits, and sales strategies.
  • Expanding business reach and client base through effective marketing, business development, and sales account management plans.
  • Crafting and overseeing the marketing and business development (M&BD) plan for the CD group in the BC, including cross-selling initiatives and investments in sponsorships, conferences, and M&BD labor budgets.
  • Enhancing the visibility of the business and bolstering our reputation to drive revenue by sharing our knowledge and innovation narrative at pivotal client engagements.
  • Collaborating with other leaders to foster cooperation on pursuits across different regions and business sectors.

Practice

  • Inspiring, motivating, and holding the team accountable for delivering innovative design solutions.
  • Promoting project excellence.
  • Assigning responsibility for managing project delivery, QA/QC, discipline excellence, and technical quality, as well as documenting best practices in work execution.
  • Entrusting responsibility for fostering design excellence across all disciplines within the BC, promoting innovation, sustainable design principles, and technological utilization.
  • Ensuring compliance with ISO-certified Integrated Management System and Project Management (PM) Frameworks.
  • Overseeing the management, needs assessment, and provision of digital practice tools and applications to support the BC in project delivery.

People Leadership

  • Assisting the BC in developing, attracting, engaging, and retaining top talent.
  • Establishing frequent interaction with staff to enhance employee connectedness with leadership.
  • Supporting the overall talent management lifecycle, including career development, employee engagement, succession planning, coaching and mentoring, diversity and inclusion, and leadership development within the BC.

Business and Financial Management

  • Assisting the BC Operations Leader (BCOL) with the annual budget for the CD group, outlining the vision, focus, priorities for implementation, and setting specific business performance goals.
  • Spearheading the development of the BC M&BD plan for the Community Development practice.

Requirements

  • Bachelor s Degree in civil engineering, landscape architecture or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 12 years relevant experience, leadership, financial management, business development and consulting experience; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or Landscape Architect (LA)

Salary Range

  • 155K -$185K
