Job Description:
Summit Academy Enhanced provides intense behavior services to individuals that demonstrate challenging behaviors within a school setting.The school integrates a clinical approach for the functional analysis of targeted behaviors as well as safe and effective procedures to properly evaluate treatmentinterventions prior to classroom implementation.Additionally, the program aims to incorporate and generalize clinical treatment gains into a classroom setting where the student can participate fully and functionally in classroom activities for the student's overall benefit and well-being.Summit Academy Enhanced will also have the unique option of providing intense trainings for caregivers, staff, and outside providers to maintain consistency of our services across various settings and contexts. The Teacher is the transdisciplinary team leader and classroom manager. They are the classroom leads for assigned students and responsible for the formation of lesson plans and academic progress. The Teacher at Summit Academy Enhanced will have the unique experience of working in an integrated, team-based model with an interdisciplinary team of psychiatrists, social workers, psychologists, and behavior analysists for the overall well-being of the students in the classroom.Interested teachers may also have the opportunity to partake in program development to refine and enhance the quality of service for Summit Academy Enhanced.
Review and implement all educational requirements in each student's IEPEstablish and monitor individual curricula, data collection and charting systems Implement behavior management procedures developed by the treatment teamSupervise and manage activities of Behavior SpecialistsProvide a safe, age-appropriate educational environment for studentsAdminister appropriate and effective instructional strategiesEnsure students are generalizing treatment gains into the classroomParticipate in transitioning and discharging students to less restrictive settingsCoordinate and collaborate with Support Service Personnel (related)Collaborate and effectively communicate with families and external service providersDemonstrate professional knowledge of children with developmental disabilities For Secondary Classroom Teachers: be knowledgeable of and remain up to date of NYSED requirements including Exit Summaries, Transition Portfolios, Training Plans, Transition in the IEP and Transition Assessments. Must know about various types of adult services to prepare students to become as independent as possible post-graduation.Adheres to The Summit Center Core Agency Values of Adaptability, Accountability, Collaboration, Integrity, Optimism, and RespectCERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: NYS Special Education Permanent certificate or applicable Students with Disabilities certificate required.
