Position Summary: Vanderheyden is seeking a certified Health Teacher to support the New York State Health standards through engaging, informed and timely instruction. Vanderheyden firmly supports the Health education standards and the importance of health topics, physical and mental well-being.Primary Duties & Essential Functions:
- Deliver the primary Health education instruction to students as scheduled.
- Prepare lesson plans and instructional material based on the New York State Standards.
- Evaluate and recommend instructional material and activities.
- Evaluate and record academic progress of each student.
- Maintain and follow the Individual Education Plan (IEP) for each classified student.
- Maintain and follow the Behavioral Support Plan (BSP) for each student.
- Create and maintain a safe learning environment within the classroom.
- Assess and record program outcomes on the school management system.
- Assigns tasks and monitor the performance of classroom ancillary staff.
- Assume other responsibilities that belong to all education staff members such as participation in the behavior management program, insuring the health, safety, and supervision of students, and enforcing the Student Handbook and Code of Conduct.
- Initiate communication and consultation with other staff in response to student concerns.
- Cultivate and maintain productive relationships with all agency staff.
- Develop supportive and nurturing relationships with students while consistently reinforcing program expectations.
- Participates fully and effectively in school meetings or teams including Committee on Special Education meetings, Department meetings, and teacher meetings.
Required Education, Knowledge. and Skills:
- Bachelor's Degree required, Masters preferred
- New York State Teachers Certification in Health Education.
- Experience with at-risk youth and/or youth with special education needs preferred

- Must be available to work a first shift work week
