SVP, Business & Legal Affairs, Topic Studios

Responsibilities:

  • Lead business and legal affairs for Topic Studios film, documentary/docuseries, scripted television, and podcast verticals
  • Negotiate above-the-line talent (writers, producers, directors, and performers) and rights deals
  • Manage day-to-day business and legal affairs issues for development, production, co-financing, tax incentive deals, and distribution deals
  • Works closely with creative, production, and finance departments and senior leadership to provide information, business advice, deal analysis, and consultation services
  • Support corporate governance and board matters, including preparing resolutions, minutes, and other corporate documents
  • Provide legal advice and support on a wide range of corporate matters
  • Work closely with outside counsel across all aspects of the company s businesses and investments
  • Other appropriately related projects/duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have graduated from an accredited law school and have a combined minimum of 15+ years of relevant experience at a leading law firm and one or more studios, networks and/or production/finance companies
  • Significant experience as a business and/or legal affairs executive handling film, scripted television, documentary and/or podcast projects; experience with co-financing deals and structures
  • Must possess an ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment
  • Superior analytical skills and ability, together with strong business and financial acumen within and outside a framework
  • Strong/mature business-minded lawyer with good judgment and strong interpersonal skills, both internally and externally within the entertainment community
  • Superior organizational, prioritization, and time management skills; ability to execute against multiple, high-priority projects
  • Understand legal responsibility and holds to the highest degree of honesty, integrity, and respect
  • Position is based in New York City. Will consider candidates based remotely.
  • Member of the NY Bar or other jurisdiction as applicable
