Compensation: $60,000 - $65,000 / year

DescriptionManhattan Youth is looking for a full-time Summer Rising Elementary Program Director to join our dedicated team.The Elementary Summer Rising Site Director is responsible for supervising and managing all elements of the DYCD funded elementary program. Duties range from direct supervision of children, teachers and staff, to creating curriculum and maintaining student records. This position is split equally between supervision and management of onsite programs and administration.Summer Rising is a program run jointly from the Department of Education (DOE) and the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD).Manhattan Youth s Summer Rising program will service approximately 300 Kindergarten to 5th grade students. Our program is contracted to serve families from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The first half of the day consist of academic instruction, coordinated by the school with assistance by Manhattan Youth. The 2nd half of the day consist of recreational and other activities coordinated by Manhattan Youth. The Summer Rising program approximately runs from the 2nd week of July to the third week of August. The position runs from May 1st until August 31st. While it is considered temporary the site director may apply for year round positions with Manhattan Youth upon the completion of summer program.Schedule:10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday Friday (May-June)7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday Friday (July-Aug) 8 hrs a day as advisableKey Responsibilities
  • Making sure all staff hired are fully compliant with all governing regulations.
  • Ability to devise a daily schedule of activities completed by the first or second week of June.
  • Manages and supervises complex schedule that is subject to change.
  • Creates and maintains staff schedules visible by all staff and school faculty.
  • Conducts monthly fire drills and maintains a separate log.
  • Assist in the placement and keeps roster of staff for summer includes checking in with our onboarding department.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Four Year College Degree
  • Must have three years of after-school management or youth programs.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to effectively manage and correct conduct and performance of adults and children. Including experience running an after-school program or summer program.
  • Exhibit superior oral and written skills and be able to maintain the confidentiality of all documents.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Competence in budgeting highly preferred.
  • Spanish speaking a plus.
  • Able to use own initiative, sound judgment, tact and diplomacy.
  • Demonstrated analytical and organizational skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail. Ability to work under pressure.
