POSITION

Special Education Teacher-2 positions (Kindergarten and 5th Grade)

WHO WE ARE

Central Queens Academy (CQA) is an award-winning, high-performing, free, public charter school which opened in 2012. Currently we serve approximately 400 middle school scholars in grades 5-8 and 100 elementary school scholars in Kindergarten and first grade. We will grow our elementary school and add one new grade each year until 2024 when we will serve all grades K-8. CQA was founded to serve the families in District 24, specifically those who live in and around the multiethnic, multicultural, and multilingual communities of Elmhurst, Corona and Woodside. Our scholars and their families hail from over 30 different nations and speak over 20 different languages at home. More than 80% of our scholars would be the first in their families to attend college.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assess and record student development, identify strengths and areas of improvement.
  • Lead classroom differentiation through curricular modifications, instructional techniques, parallel instruction, and integrated classroom strategies.
  • Implement IEP goals and strategies into an integrated classroom.
  • Assess and record student development, identify strengths and areas of improvement.
  • Understands key statistical and computational concepts embedded in the curriculum.
  • Support teachers in documenting children s progress.
  • Adapt and reassess lesson plans to meet specific student needs, comply with newly implemented guidelines or rules, and to update relevant information and include new developments in education.
  • Exhibit a high level of organization, a knack for systems of data collection and analysis, and preparedness for instructional blocks.
  • Manage the diverse ability levels of students.
  • Assess and record student development, identify strengths and areas of improvement.
  • Communicate with school leadership frequently and all other staff members who engage with students.
  • Communicate with parents as per school guidelines on a regular basis, including presenting student progress reports.
  • Actively participates in professional development and school meetings on curriculum, organization, and guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master s Degree required.
  • SPED Certification required.
  • Experience in evaluating and analyzing testing data.
  • Evidence of self-reflective practices, coachability, and collaboration required.

COMPENSATION

  • Competitive salary, commensurate with experience ($75,000-$85,000)
