We provide safe, dependable buses for our customers and professional services to meet their needs.Service Technician III position - Advanced KnowledgeJOB SUMMARY The primary function of the Service Tech III is to inspect, maintain, and repair automobiles, trucks and buses that run on gasoline, diesel, electricity, or alternative fuels such as propane. Perform major repairs and overhauls to vehicles, including fuel, ignition, electrical and cooling systems; automatic transmissions and differentials, universal joints, and hydraulic units; steering mechanisms and other controls; wheel alignments and emission control systems. Diagnose and repair all three engine groups independently. Work with other techs and provide guidance and assistance when needed. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs preventive maintenance work on automobiles, trucks, buses and machinery to required standards.
  • Performs necessary inspection and repairs to bring vehicles into compliance.
  • Prepares buses and vehicles for DOT inspection.
  • Maintains and repairs all electrical components, such as directional lights, safety warning, lights, starting and charging systems, etc., on all types of vehicles.
  • Troubleshoots vehicles in need of repair, including electrical troubleshooting.
  • Installs vehicle repair components.
  • Replaces exterior engine components.
  • Inspects and repairs transmissions and drive line components.
  • Performs all major internal engine repairs.
  • Performs cleaning of internal and exterior engine components. May be required to service equipment with gasoline, oil and grease; may spray paint engine.
  • Performs emergency road service.
  • May perform any welding repair.
  • Performs AC installation and repairs.
  • Performs brake pulls on buses and vehicles.
  • Follow all prescribed safety methods and perform work safely.

RequirementsEDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / CERTIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred .
  • Five years minimum related experience
  • NYS CDL, Class B driver license with Passenger endorsement (NO N, N1, N2 restriction) preferred.
  • Cummins Certification 07 & 10 required.
  • Rousch Certification required .
  • Propane Certification required.
  • Blue Bird Academy Certification required .
  • AC Certification required.
  • NYS DMV Inspector Certification
  • OBD II Diagnosis
  • Ford experience or training
  • Allison Transmission Certification
  • ASE Test Series for School Bus
Body Systems, Special Equipment, Diesel Engines, Brakes, Suspension, Steering, Electrical/Electronic Systems, Drive Train, and Air Conditioning Systems & Controls REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE / QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS / ABILITIES
  • Working knowledge of modern automotive maintenance methods and procedures including the proper and safe use of general automotive repair tools, equipment, and of lubrications and their proper use.
  • Perform skilled automotive repair work involving the use of specialized tools, instruments, and equipment.
  • Ability to use some independent judgment and initiative to continue training in the latest knowledge and techniques of the trade.
  • Ability to perform computer diagnostics and tests.
  • Ability to diagnose the source of a problem quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions sufficiently to follow supervisor instructions and work orders.
  • Ability to guide or instruct customers on vehicle issues and solutions.
  • Ability to make good business decisions in accordance with established procedures and policies when making a road call or answering customer inquiries.
  • Ability to write or type sufficiently to maintain automotive certifications, make notes on work orders. Ability to perform numeric calculations is necessary for diagnostic testing on vehicles.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.Speech and hearing sufficient for regular in person and telephone communication with customers, supervisors and other employees.Ability to read company and industry correspondence/technical manuals sufficiently to understand the intended message.Manual and finger dexterity sufficient for using a laptop, shop equipment, hand tools and power tools.
  • Lift up to 10 lbs. constantly and up to 50 lbs. frequently while maintaining and repairing vehicles.
  • Lift over 50 lbs. occasionally with assistance for some repairs that require handling of large parts or equipment such as transmission replacements, tires, etc.
  • Sit, stand, walk, bend/stoop, push/pull, twist, kneel and reach frequently to access and work in various areas of the vehicles.
  • Occasionally climb, balance, crouch, and crawl to access awkward areas of vehicles.
  • Repetitive motion of turning and twisting tools is required to maintain or repair vehicles.
