Position Summary

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the SVP of Business Development is responsible for the strategic direction and leadership of the sales team within a national footprint. He or she will be accountable for creating sales and marketing strategies, establishing, and driving sales forecasts and managing the sales team through execution of contractual aspects of a solar deal. The successful candidate must have thorough understanding of sales processes, procedures, and methodologies which include relationship, transactional and solution-based selling. Experience training, developing and motivating teams to maximize economic value, relationship building and managing people is required, as well as the desire and entrepreneurial mindset to operate successfully as a senior leader within a fast-paced, early-stage company environment.

The position is based in SMG s midtown New York office.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Partner with leadership team to optimize sales efficiency, improve sales processes and accelerate revenue growth through analysis and execution
  • Build, train mentor a sales team in lead generation and origination of new and existing business
  • Create and develop a disciplined performance driven culture
  • Facilitate trainings and motivate the team to meet/achieve sales targets
  • Conduct regular accountability review meetings with sales team to ensure monthly, quarterly, and annual goal achievement.
  • Track KPI s, analyze, report, and communicate sales activities and results to Executive team
  • Ensure compliance on a CRMtool
  • Implement and execute a highly efficient deal execution process
  • Oversee team origination of multiple live deals simultaneously
  • Working closely with internal departments to understand all substantive project issues around tax, legal, financial, and technical aspects of the deal
  • Drive coordination with the Engineering, Finance, Operations and Project Development teams on all aspects of solar projects

Qualifications:

Must be passionate about the renewable energy business, hardworking and thrive in the fast pace of an early-stage company with tremendous growth potential. In addition, the SVP of Sales must possess:

  • A minimum of 7-10+ years building and growing sales teams in a fast paced and complex renewable energy (preferably C&I PV solar or microgrid) organization
  • Experience with projects in California
  • Experience with projects in the Mid-Atlantic market
  • A proven sales leader who can lead and manage across revenue streams and maximize value across all channels
  • A deep Rolodex of industry contacts/relationships
  • History of relationship building deal execution and coordination with senior management
  • Consistent performer successfully meeting/exceeding company sales and revenue targets
  • Prior experience in an environment with a robust sales process and access to best-in-class sales training
  • Excellent sales skills with the ability to coach, train, develop and motivate others
  • Previous experience personally selling transactional to more complex multi-year contracts that involved multiple decision makers, preferably C-Suite and V-levels
  • Strong business and financial acumen, successfully applied to distinguish between revenue opportunities that can yield material result and those that hold little promise of success
