You will work directly with partners and stakeholders, like Alexa, Amazon.com, Kindle, various AWS teams, etc. System Development engineers troubleshoot, debug, evaluate and resolve computer-identified alarms, make feature enhancements, bug fixes, systems management, perform software deployments and migrations, host management and automate routine operational tasks. The position requires a combination of strong troubleshooting, technical, programming/scripting and communication skills and includes a mix of on call and operational tasks and involves small to medium level software development work. Responsible to develop tools and automation to achieve human free operations. You will ensure current (and upcoming) AWS services meet the evolving needs of Amazon. You'll define and execute team technical strategies while making critical technical trade-offs at the team or service level. Your influence extends to shaping the business and technology direction of your team and partner teams, including managers and Technical/Product Managers.You'll lead team projects, actively mentor and develop team members, and contribute to team architecture. Your technology solutions will significantly enhance resilience, performance, and business value within the organization, empowering other builders and improving the customer experience while reducing costs for other teams.Your work will encompass both tactical and strategic elements, including performing Technical Promotion Assessments if eligible. You'll impact team goals, technical strategies, dependencies, resilience, and performance. By reducing complexity and identifying risks at various levels, you'll contribute to improving operational excellence and streamlining processes across teams. Additionally, you'll troubleshoot complex problems, decompose difficult challenges into manageable projects, and define and apply engineering, testing, and operational excellence standards for your team.A day in the lifeA typical day for a Sr SysDE entails collaborating with the operations team to assist engineers and offer technical guidance. Following this, you'll engage with customers to grasp their challenges, translating them into actionable requests for internal service teams or coordinating with AWS support for issue resolution or onboarding. Additionally, you'll maintain a dedicated channel with AWS-Plus teams to escalate, prioritize, and brainstorm solutions for customer issues. Participating in on-call rotations, you'll swiftly address incidents and enhance visibility through operational excellence calls. Furthermore, you'll design and create tools to aid on-call engineers in swiftly identifying and resolving issues, optimizing efficiency.About the teamThis particular role falls within the Observability team, a fundamental component of Cloud Connections Foundations. Our goal is to streamline networking complexities for customers. This team specializes in providing tools to analyze and interpret internal network status and traffic telemetry, fostering operational excellence and offering valuable business insights. Through data-driven approaches, we tackle customer pain points, plan scalability for our core network, identify traffic bottlenecks, monitor usage patterns, and enhance the overall builder experience. As champions of Operational Excellence, we act as the voice of the customer, ensuring seamless service onboarding and addressing reported issues promptly.We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:New York, NY, USABasic Qualifications- 5+ years of systems design, software development, operations, automation, and process improvement experience- 5+ years of programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby experience- Bachelor's degree- Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes- Proficiency in cloud technologies, particularly AWS, and expertise in hosting services natively are essential. Familiarity with the steps involved in migration, from assessment to execution, is crucial for successful transitions. Effective communication skills are necessary for engaging with customers, understanding their pain points, and translating them into actionable solutions. The base pay for this position ranges from $121,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $235,200/year in our highest geographic market.
