**Description:**

Senior Research Support Specialist Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume): Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Biological Science or a related field. Two (2) years of full-time experience with advanced research related/laboratory activities including molecular cloning techniques and handling of cells in tissue cultures. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Biochemistry, Cell Biology or a closely related field. Additional years (3+) full-time experience with advanced research related/laboratory activities including molecular cloning techniques, handling of cells in tissue cultures, and biochemical analyses. Experience in laboratory techniques such as flow cytometry. Experience in imaging of cells in culture by confocal microscopy and electron microscopy. Former participation in animal studies. Brief Description of Duties: The Senior Research Support Specialist will provide a more broad range of complex laboratory and research related tasks. Working under general supervision in support of a research project or program for Dr. Carol Carter in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, incumbent will operate equipment, carry out test procedures as well as collate and interpret data using special methods. The successful incumbent will have excellent interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with an exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving. Develop, monitor, coordinate and manage activities to maintain effective operation of the research experiments in the fields of Virology, Cell Biology and Biochemistry. Work collaboratively with other employees, faculty and professionals to advance the goals of the project. Conduct experiments; provide research support by conducting tests using specialized methods for data collection; interpret the collected data. Observe, collect and analyze data and write summary reports as necessary. Prepare reports, drafts and/or manuscripts based on the collected data. May develop and maintain databases. Other duties as assigned. Special Notes: The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation.
