Job DescriptionChubb Commercial Insurance is currently seeking a skilled Core Commercial Underwriter to join the Middle Market Commercial Insurance team in New York City. Position Description: Commercial Insurance writes companies with revenuesup to $1B, including both guaranteed cost and loss sensitive program structures. As a Senior Underwriter, responsibilities including a renewal book of $8M - $9M and generating new business of approximately $1-1.5M annually. The position will be responsible for driving profitable growth with New York agents and brokers. Products include Package, Property, General Liability, Auto, Worker's Compensation, Umbrella/Excess and Foreign. The Underwriter will be charged with directly underwriting and growing a book consisting mainly of Manufacturing, Professional Services, Cultural Institutions, Real Estate, Wholesale, Food and Other services. We are looking for a candidate who is highly motivated, results oriented with solid business and underwriting acumen. Responsibilities: The Production Underwriter will:
  • Establish relationships with key trading partners and drive submission activity across assigned Agents and Brokers in our desired industry segments.
  • Be responsible for profit, growth, and retention of assigned book.
  • Develop and negotiate price, coverage, terms and conditions for all new business and renewals while actively identifying account rounding opportunities for other Chubb practices.
  • Meet or exceed new business production goals while maintaining profitability across assigned portfolio and adhering to authority and strategies.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with the branch, our brokers and clients.
  • Develop a prospect pipeline with our major trading partners and engage other business units for cross-selling opportunities.
  • In conjunction with Underwriting Associate, retain key assigned renewals and lead coordination of Loss Control and Claims Service plans for service level accounts.
  • Most travel will be local
QualificationsBachelor's Degree or related experience Property and Casualty Underwriting experience preferably in the core middle market segment; high degree of proficiency with underwriting process, with solid background in risk analysis. Confidence to gain a marketplace presence and become a trusted advisor for assigned agents/brokers. Strong communication, interpersonal and time management skills. Presentation and Public speaking skills. Strong negotiation skills. Knowledge and understanding of current insurance marketplace conditions. Understanding and adherence to organizational and regulatory rules, and ability to adhere to underwriting authority. Understanding of Workers Compensation, General Liability, Property, Umbrella, and Auto Liability Insurance coverage, terms and conditions. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. The pay range for the role is $87,500 to $149,500. The specific offer will depend on an applicant's skills and other factors.
