Job Description:

Scientist / Senior Scientist (Genomics)

  • Full-time position
  • Competitive compensation (Salary, Benefits & Options)
  • New York City, NY

About Waypoint Bio:

Waypoint Bio is a venture-backed biotech startup building the next generation of cell therapies for solid tumors and autoimmune diseases. Traditional cell therapy development faces a trade-off between in vitro approaches that are fast but inaccurate, and in vivo approaches that are accurate but slow and expensive. Waypoint is pioneering high throughput in vivo testing of novel cell therapy designs. Using our proprietary platform combining spatial biology, pooled screening, in silico protein engineering, and machine learning, we can obtain both depth and breadth when screening cell therapy candidates speed without compromising on in vivo accuracy. Our team is highly collaborative, interdisciplinary, and shares the mission of bringing the promise of immune cell therapy to all cancer patients.

Position Summary:

Waypoint is seeking a motivated scientist to support the pre-clinical development of therapeutic candidates. We are a fast-paced growing startup looking for candidates who want to have a meaningful impact on the company s biomedical advances. The ideal candidate will have expertise in applying and developing innovative experimental genomics approaches to interrogate mammalian cell biology. Examples of relevant expertise include but are not limited to: pooled CRISPR screens (e.g. CROP-seq, Perturb-seq), genomics profiling technologies (e.g. ATAC-seq, CUT&RUN, ChIP-seq), single cell technologies (e.g. snATAC-seq), or other technologies.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement cutting-edge genomics technologies in mammalian cells (e.g. pooled CRISPR screens with readouts beyond gRNA enrichment).
  • Ability to work in a team to conceive of & implement new genomics technologies and to improve the performance, throughput, and accuracy of existing assays.
  • Design & implementation of pooled cloning approaches using Gibson assembly and other related approaches
  • Perform standard molecular biology workflows e.g. cloning, lentiviral work, transfections, cell culture, etc.
  • Help develop new approaches for spatial biology
  • Actively engage in prioritizing key milestones and developing appropriate timelines.
  • Provide conceptual input on experimental design and interpretation.
  • The successful candidate will be able to tackle new problems independently while also working as part of a team with a unified goal.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Cell Biology, Genomics, or related field.
  • 2+ years of academic or industry experience in genomics technology development.
  • Expertise implementing genomics methods, including pooled screening approaches (e.g. ATAC-seq, CROP-seq, Perturb-seq).
  • Expertise in molecular cloning (InFusion, Gibson), RNA/DNA purification, agarose gel electrophoresis, and qRT-PCR.
  • Mammalian cell culture and transfection methods.
  • An excellent scientific track record with published research papers or recent experience in the field of genomics.
  • Superb written and oral communication skills, and the organizational abilities to pursue several projects on tight timelines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise with single cell profiling and/or massively parallel reporter assays.
  • Experience with pooled CRISPR/i/a screens with varying readouts (e.g. cell survival, fluorescence, etc.).
  • Experience with immunology and/or oncology, and deep knowledge of key signaling pathways in both fields.
  • Relevant publications in the field of genomics focused on novel technology development.
