We are hi seeking a Rolling Stock Test Engineer to join our team. The initial project/task will be based in Elmira, New York or Calverton, MD followed by time on the ground in Kansas City, where the majority of the work will be performed at the client site/office, operations and maintenance facility, and the project alignment.This candidate is to provide high quality rolling stock consultancy services to clients primarily in the field of managing vehicle testing and commissioning, including static and dynamic testing of systems such as vehicle control circuits, propulsion and traction control, braking and slide control, auxiliary power/battery, EMI/EMC, noise and vibration, vehicle dynamics and ride quality, software, high voltage collection and distribution, communication systems, monitoring & diagnostics, onboard to wayside interfaces, and/or other rail vehicle systems. Knowledge and expertise in a secondary discipline or knowledge base, such as mechanical engineering, Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety (RAMS), operations and maintenance, or testing, is desired. Provide guidance and expertise regarding standards, regulations, analysis, and engineering, including compliance to contract technical requirements. May be required to support others within the AtkinsRalis Rail & Transit group, including assisting with compilation of bids and marketing the services of the AtkinsRalis group.About Us AtkinsRalis is one of the world's most respected design, engineering and project management consultancies. Atkins has the depth and breadth of expertise to respond to the most technically challenging and time-critical infrastructure projects and the urgent transition to a low-carbon economy.How will you contribute to the team?Manage testing and commissioning oversight of a fleet of new rail vehicles on a new alignment. Note: Initial project(s) will relate to streetcar equipment.Coordination with multiple parties, including the vehicle manufacturer, system constructor, system operator and maintainer, train control provider, communications provider, governing transit authority, etc.Provide regular, in-depth vehicle testing and test management expertise, both written and verbal, to internal and external customers. The Streetcar systems tested will include propulsion/traction control, braking, auxiliary power/battery, communications, EMI/EMC, noise and vibration, vehicle dynamics, etc.Provide quality feedback and reports to the client, AtkinsRalis project team, and the vehicle builders based on the specification, designs, test results, regulations, and personal experience.Manage all aspects of assignments expected of a test engineer, that are undertaken for a client, which may include estimating, tendering, planning and execution.Ensure that all work is undertaken in accordance with AtkinsRalis Rail & Transit's procedures and corporate requirements, including the Quality Management System, Safety Management System and Ethics/Compliance.Represent the client and the client's interests in testing, warranty, reliability demonstration and other project meetings with project stakeholders.Assist the Department Manager, Project Services and the Technical Director, Rail & Transit Consulting in realizing Group and Regional objectives.Domestic and/or international travel will typically range from 0% to 50% on a month-to-month basis. The travel for the first assignment is expected to be slightly higher than this.RESPONSIBILITIESWhen acting in the role of test engineer:Hold and maintain regular meetings and maintain meeting minutes and action items.Ensure that the roles and responsibilities of team members on each assignment or project are defined and understood.Ensure submitted work is checked to ensure compliance to internal quality standards and the client's expectations.Ensure at least a general understanding of project tasks managed at a project engineer level, which may include topics that cover mechanical engineering, structural engineering, operations and maintenance, reliability, quality, and safety.What will you contribute? Degree in engineering and 10+ years of experience in the rail industry, or equivalent combination of education and experience.A generalist background, experience with all vehicle systems and/or experience with multiple vehicle types are a plus.English written and verbal language skills required.Work EnvironmentThe initial project/task will be based in Elmira, New York followed by time on the ground in Kansas City, where the majority of the work will be performed at the client site/office, operations and maintenance facility, and the project alignment. Expected compensation range is between $80,000 - $150,000 annually depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.
