Organization Overview:Our Vertebrate Genome Laboratory specializes in high-molecular weight DNA and long-read genomic technologies. The VGL offers both library preparation and sequencing services, including library preparation for high molecular weight gDNA, long amplicons, and full-length transcriptome sequencing (Iso-Seq method), utilizing PacBio, Bionano and 10X Chromium technologies.Overview:

The Research Support Assistant will be responsible for performing a variety of complex technical duties involved in assisting with and conducting laboratory procedures. The Research Support Assistant will support the daily operations of a Next-Generation Sequencing laboratory, prepare and process samples submitted by collaborators and users for various types of DNA and RNA sequencing and independently operate and maintain lab instruments.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include:

  • Extraction and purification of nucleic acids (DNA and RNA)
  • Nucleic acid quantification and capillary gel electrophoresis
  • Sample preparation for sequencing
  • Maintain a clean and well-organized lab space
  • Maintain an organized lab notebook
  • Participate in weekly lab meetings
  • Perform related duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested
Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree required; an educational emphasis in biology, chemistry, or other life sciences field preferred

  • Relevant laboratory experience

  • A strong interest in genomics

  • Excellent lab and time management skills

  • Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills

  • Proven multitasking and prioritizing abilities

  • Strong attention to detail, and scientific integrity

  • The ability to work in a team environment

Preferred:

  • Bench experience with DNA isolation, RNA isolation, and nucleic acids QC strongly preferred

  • Experience with Illumina, PacBio, or Nanopore library preparation

  • Hands-on experience with RNA library preparation and/or Hi-C library preparation

  • Hands on experience with long-read sequencing technologies

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on various factors, including but not limited to organizational budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The hiring range provided represents The Rockefeller University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Compensation Range: Min:USD $50,000.00/Yr.Compensation Range: Max:USD $60,000.00/Yr.
