Job Overview

The Specialist, Consumer Insights, is part the Consumer Insights team. This team serves as a consultative partner with key stakeholders in marketing, merchandising, business development, design, store operations, digital experience, and innovation. They work collaboratively to bring the voice of consumers directly into decision-making processes.

As a Specialist within Consumer Insights, the individual contributor manages quantitative and qualitative research projects. These projects encompass brand and advertising research, merchandise testing, digital shopping behaviors, and strategic initiatives such as customer acquisition, innovation in store formats, and digital transformation for the Macy's brand, including Macy's Backstage.

What You Will Do

* Lead the development and execution of internal research projects independently.

* Manage activities such as questionnaire development, survey programming, and data processing design for quantitative studies.

* Oversee vendor relationships, including scoping, screening criteria, and discussion guide development for qualitative studies.

* Build and support external vendor relationships for research initiatives.

* Take the lead in analyzing and synthesizing key consumer insights.

* Deliver consumer insights through actionable and concise storytelling.

* Lead presentations of research findings with key stakeholders.

* Develop relationships across various functions within Macy's, including strategy, merchandising, analytics, customer experience, and user experience.

* Work towards creating cohesive customer insights.

* Proactively design research that has the potential to inspire new ways of thinking about customers.

Skills You Will Need

* Research Project Management: Independently lead the development and execution of internal research projects, including activities such as questionnaire development, survey programming, and data processing design for quantitative studies.

* Vendor Relationship Management: Oversee vendor relationships, encompassing scoping, screening criteria, and discussion guide development for qualitative studies. Build and support external vendor relationships for research initiatives.

* Consumer Insights Analysis: Lead the analysis and synthesis of key consumer insights, delivering findings through actionable and concise storytelling. Conduct presentations of research findings with key stakeholders.

* Stakeholder Relationship Building: Develop relationships across various functions within Macy's, including strategy, merchandising, analytics, customer experience, and user experience.

* Strategic Thinking: Proactively design research that has the potential to inspire new ways of thinking about customers.

* Analytical and Writing Skills: Demonstrate excellent analytical, writing, and communication skills.

* Quantitative and Qualitative Methodologies: Execute and analyze various types of quantitative methodologies (e.g., brand tracking, conjoint, segmentation, regression analysis). Manage qualitative research (e.g., focus groups, ethnographies).

* Technical Proficiency: Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including strong PowerPoint and Excel skills. Use data analysis and survey programming tools efficiently (e.g., Alida, Qualtrics, SPSS, Tableau).

* Candidates with a Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply. 3-5 years of market research experience at a retailer, consumer brand, or supplier-side market research firm.

* Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business publications, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations; write reports, business correspondence, and manuals; effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

* Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
