They are responsible for both technical and quality aspects in support of calibration and CMM programming, as well as ensuring that the products produced meet all required quality. The Quality Engineer (Metrology) is also responsible for checking the dimensions of products, tools, and machine parts. They are also responsible for calibrating instruments, designing new tools or systems of measurement, and interpreting data. The duties shall include, but not be limited to the following:
  • Support as lead metrology programmer, including developing, validating, executing, and maintaining inspection programs, as well as serving as a technical resource.
  • Provide statistical sampling and analysis.
  • Work with manufacturing and engineering to maintain process flows, process control, and FMEA/PFMEA.
  • Manages all quality related issues within the assigned manufacturing teams and associated support departments.
  • Works with teams to identify root causes and develop/implement effective permanent corrective actions to address product/process quality issues.
  • Works with stakeholders to resolve quality issues that arise as quickly and efficiently as possible to prevent compromising quality & safety standards.
  • Performs product, process, and system audits as assigned.
  • Monitors and reports on quality related KPIs including scrap, rework, PPM levels, customer complaints, and non-conformances.
  • Responsible for leading / managing critical continuous improvement / problem solving projects and Corrective Action activities.
  • Participates in cross-functional teams responsible for the development of new products and processes required to exceed customer expectations.
  • Demonstrate efficiency in utilizing dimensional inspection tools such as Optical comparator surface plates, gage blocks, Pin gages, Calipers, Micrometers, Thread gages, CMM usage, height gages, and indicators.
  • Recommends the purchase of laboratory or field equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • QualificationsRequirements:
  • BS Degree in a technical / engineering related field or equivalent experience.
  • Accepts direction and projects from the DT Quality Manager.
  • Fosters cooperative and open communication with all personnel and departments.
  • Proficient with computers; experience with Microsoft Office and Minitab a plus.
  • Be able to work effectively in an ever-changing, fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
  • Engages interest and participation while working collaboratively with customers.
  • Be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrates strong knowledge of quality management systems (ISO 9001); experience with APQP, PPAP and DFMEA/PFMEA development required.
  • PC-DMIS and CMM experience required.
  • Physical and dimensional metrology experience.
  • Demonstrates strong knowledge / application of quality and root cause analysis tools.
  • Demonstrates the ability to read / interpret engineering drawings, strong knowledge of GD&T standards a plus.
  • Fluent in data reporting charts, pareto, histograms, CPk studies, capability studies, etc.
  • Experience in designing new tools, systems of measurement, calibration of instruments.
  • Understanding of the National Institute of Standards
  • Develops calibration methods and techniques based on principles of measurement science, technical analysis of measurement problems, and accuracy and precision requirements.
