**Position Summary: **The Frederick Douglass Community Center provides essential services to children, youth, and families on the Upper West Side, particularly the residents of the neighboring Frederick Douglass Houses. The center includes a recently refurbished gymnasium, an outdoor playground, and classrooms for early childhood education and after-school services. The Frederick Douglass Community Center is proud to be part of the Boys & Girls Club of America.
The Program Facilitator (Group Leader) will work with a group of children ages 5 to 14 years old in the after school and summer camp programs to plan and implement activities based on identified curricula in a manner that motivates and engages children and strengthens their academic and social-emotional skills.
**Responsibilities:**
* Be a positive role model for children and serve as a positive role model for youth by displaying the School Age Values.
* Develop and maintain effective system of classroom management that encourages children to develop pro-social behavior and discipline.
* Plan and implement high-quality age-appropriate program activities; whether academic support, enrichment, physical activity, healthy living, SEL, or leadership development from identified curricula.
* Directly co-supervise a group of 20 to 25 children a day between the ages of 5 to 14 years old during program hours.
* Assist Activity Specialist with curriculum implementation within the assigned group.
* Assist and supervise children during special projects or field trips (including some weekends, holidays, or even programming).
* Collect, organize, assess, and celebrate youth's work.
* Interact, engage and maintain open communication with parents to enable a better understanding of youth needs and how to manage the child/children.
* Attend curriculum/program meetings with the Program Director or relevant personnel on a monthly basis or as otherwise indicated.
* Attend internal and external professional development pertaining to role, including those focused-on alignment of activities with educational standards.
* Clean and maintain a supportive, respectful classroom environment that is well organized and resource rich to ensure activities are offered in a timely, efficient manner.
* Escort children to and from all activities including those outside of the center.
* Maintain participant case files and documentation of all required services and activities.
* Complete and submit weekly schedules, reports, and all other required documentation.
* Be a positive role model for children and serve as a positive role model for youth.

* Take daily attendance of students and report any absences to Program Director.
* Work collaboratively with other agency youth programs and partners.
* Occasionally work evenings and weekends when needed.
* Be punctual, responsible, maintain a positive attitude, and provide encouragement to all students.
* All other duties as required, assigned, and necessary.
**Qualifications:**
* High School Diploma/GED required.
* Associate's degree in a related field or two years of successful experience working with students in appropriate school level preferred.
* Knowledge of positive youth development practices.
* Ability to interface with diverse youth and staff populations.
* Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary team.
* Excellent Communication Skills (written & verbal).
* Good Command of English Language; Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
