Job Type Full-timeDescriptionThe Masonic Medical Research Institute (mmri.edu) is looking for enthusiastic candidates to join the laboratory of Dr. Matthew Nystoriak. Successful candidates will join a research program which focuses on biological processes that underlie cardiovascular health and disease. To achieve these goals, we use multidisciplinary approaches that span cellular electrophysiology, fluorescence microscopy, and in vivo imaging techniques. While a base level of experience will be important for a successful candidate, we equally weigh enthusiasm, curiosity, long-term potential, and team fit for anyone who might join the lab. The important thing is that your goals fit with those of the group at MMRI, and that our group is a good fit for you.Specific projects address: o Determining how cardiac metabolism regulates blood flow to the heart across the lifespano Voltage-gated ion channel structure-function relationships as they relate to intermediary metabolism and membrane excitabilityo Cardiac arrhythmia susceptibility and electrical remodeling upon exposure to environmental toxinsIn addition to internally driven projects, our group also has extensive collaborations with investigators at multiple institutions across the country. Requirements Preferred Qualifications
  • A recent or pending PhD in the biological sciences or related fields.
  • A research background in cell and molecular biology, cardiovascular physiology, or pharmacology, and experience with standard workflows within these fields.
  • Experience in microscopy and electrophysiology including data analyses are highly desirable.
  • Experience with model organism and/or cell culture work. Experience with iPSCs is highly beneficial.
  • Demonstrated productivity in the form of first author publications and presentations
  • Excitement to tackle difficult scientific questions in areas that will involve significant development of technical and analytical workflows
  • Scientific creativity to identify novel approaches to answer our research questions
  • A hard working and collegial attitude
