Position Overview:

Aluf Plastics is now looking for a Retail Operations Manager, a driven and proven leader in manufacturing management with specific experience in the blown film sector. Reporting to the VP of Operations, you will have full responsibility for managing the retail trash bag manufacturing portion of the business.

Key responsibilities will include the following:

Develop and implement a department operating plan that is consistent with and supports the business plan:

  • Plan and organize production schedules.
  • Manage inventory levels and prioritize production demands.
  • Measure on-time performance and redirect as required.

Manage plant budget and costs effectively:

  • Continuously seek opportunities to drive costs out of the production process.
  • Ensure cost-effective technology is used to maximize production.
  • Set cost standards, and communicate and achieve clear and measurable expectations of performance for the operation as well as direct reports.
  • Develop plant budget plans and implement systems to capture, analyze and share the operations key process indicators with team members and management personnel.
  • Work closely with Accounting to ensure budgets are met and approval processes and procedures are met with checks and balances.

Assess and allocate resources to fulfil requirements:

  • Coordinate primary and downstream equipment to meet scheduling demands
  • Direct and allocate human resources to existing production demands.

Ensure that health and safety regulations are met:

  • Direct safety meetings and foster a safe working environment.
  • Audit plant for unsafe actions and/or environments and conduct safety observations.

Lead quality initiatives:

  • Ensure standards for product quality, equipment, and operator performance are maintained.
  • Monitor QC reports and take appropriate action to maintain and improve products.

Oversee production processes including the equipment, materials and personnel:

  • Ensure equipment is operating as designed for products being produced.
  • Manage material usage.
  • Manage continuous improvement in process to minimize scrap rates.
  • Ensure employee performance is meeting or exceeding expectations for job.

Update and re-negotiate schedules as necessary to meet customer expectations:

  • Select best production routes with current order volumes.
  • Optimize scheduling to minimize changeovers while meeting promised demands.
  • Communicate quickly and effectively to CS and Sales on changes.

Monitor process material and supplies and communicate to requirements to purchasing, including:

  • Resins monitored weekly.
  • Packaging and associated materials.
  • Glue, ink, cores, etc.

Communicate maintenance concerns and anticipated machinery shutdowns to maintenance:

  • Ensure work requisitions are completed and delivered timely to maintenance.
  • Manage production schedule to allow for PM shutdowns.

Supervise, motivate and mentor personnel:

  • Lead teams in achievement of overall objectives (such as on-time shipping, inventory accuracy, safety goals, scrap reduction goals, and employee engagement).
  • Provide direction, guidance and mentoring to ensure that day-to-day production needs and goals are met.
  • Manage plant headcount and staffing requirements.

Organize and execute relevant training sessions, including:

  • Product specific training;
  • Best practices;
  • Equipment and process operation;
  • Safety;
  • Compliance understanding and performance.

Advise and support CAPEX requirement and needs.

Develop relationships and interact effectively with customers and sales team.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

1. Bachelors degree in Engineering, Operations, Management, Business or other relevant area. (Note: Highly experienced candidates with blown film experience who do not have a college degree will be considered).

2. A minimum of 10 years of blown film manufacturing experience. Solid in-depth knowledge of blown film bag theory and its application.

3. A minimum of 10 years of senior manufacturing management experience with total responsibility for managing a diverse organization in a highly efficient manufacturing environment.

4. Proven track record in cost savings and facility improvements.

5. Demonstrated skill working with others at a management level in a manufacturing environment.

6. Excellent oral communication skills, including the ability to train, motivate and mentor employees.

7. A hands-on manager who is capable of dealing with and analyzing significant details of the operation.

8. Good record keeping and reporting skills.

9. Demonstrated computer skills (spreadsheets, word processing, database and other applicable software programs).

DESIRED (BUT NOT REQUIRED) EXPERIENCE

The following would be a plus but are not pre-requisites:

1. Draw string production experience.

2. LEAN / Six Sigma experience would be a huge plus.

3. Spanish language skills.

$100-175k - Benefits: Medical, Dental, & Vision, 401k, PTO & Holiday pay
