Position Summary

The Pediatric Performance Improvement (PI) Coordinator ensure that the PI activities of the Trauma Center are compliant with the standards set forth by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Committee on Trauma and works to improve the quality of trauma care throughout the continuum of care. Working under the supervision of the Trauma Program Manager and Trauma Medical Director, responsibilities include case identification and review, presentation to clinical liaisons, analysis of aggregate data, and development of programmatic and individual dashboards. The PI Coordinator will participate in PI meetings, document PI processes and loop closure and act as facilitator for PI teams. Qualified candidates will demonstrate superior patient care and possess outstanding communication skills while adhering to our high standard of excellence.

Duties of a Pediatric Performance Improvement Coordinator may include the following but are not limited to:

* Assists the Trauma Medical Directors and the Trauma Program Manager to evaluate the effectiveness of the Trauma Team and Pediatric Trauma Program.

* Coordinates the Pediatric Trauma PI programs for the hospital in collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director and Trauma Program Manager

* Prepares and presents PI projects and reports, including clinical timelines, case summaries and development of clinical guidelines.

* Maintains a Trauma PI database to ensure adequate documentation as required by the ACS

* Serves as a liaison and collaborates with all departments involved in the care of the trauma patient.

* Supports other trauma center activities as requested, including educational programs, community outreach and patient care.

* Perform hybrid medical record review, validation, and other clinical data abstraction activities as necessary to support external quality reporting and quality improvement activities.

* Actively participate in data-driven quality improvement activities.

* Provide guidance and support on clinical topics to other QMA personnel, QI, and other analytical and clinical departments.

* Generate ad-hoc reports and perform ad-hoc responsibilities as deemed appropriate by the Assistant Director of Quality Measurement & Analytics.

* Maintain awareness of institutional quality priorities and work collaboratively with colleagues in Quality Measurement & Analytics, the Quality Division, IT, clinical and ancillary services, and hospital leadership to accomplish organizational goals.

Qualifications

Required:

* BS in Nursing, or Health Related Field

* NYS License RN with 3 years of relevant Adult &/or Pediatric trauma experience

* Knowledge and application of PI methodologies

* Ability to analyze and interpret information in a medical record

* Clinical chart review and abstraction experience and ability

* Performance improvement experience and ability

* Project management skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with diverse populations of healthcare workers is critical

* Basic computer skills including spreadsheet and word processing are also required

* Demonstrated ability to grow and adapt in a changing environment

Preferred:

* Pediatric Trauma Experience

* Trauma Registry data experience

* Certified in CQI and/or QA

* Strong computer skills; processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation & statistical software

* Knowledge of the regional and state trauma care system

* Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills

* Ability to work independently and with a team

* Prior Supervisory or leadership experience

* Intermediate experience with Excel

* Experience interpreting and complying with requirements of regulatory and/or accrediting agencies

* Skill in presenting and analyzing information to a variety of audiences

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as - $90000 - $106000.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents SBUH's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
