Job Description:

The Department of Patient Relations at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Patient Advocate. The successful candidate will:

* Report to the Executive Director pro-actively on relevant serious issues requiring immediate action.

* Greet patients and families at both the ED entrance and hospital main lobby. Assist with helping patients find clinic appointments and patient visitations.

* Serve as a liaison between patients family members and staff to resolve issues.

* Answer incoming calls regarding patient complaints in a professional and courteous manner.

* Investigate and respond to patient/family members complaints promptly. Responsible for adhering to the complaint management process for prompt resolution. Documents patient complaints in the Complaint Tracking System.

* Complete daily rounds on assigned units visiting the new admissions. Expedite services Limited English Proficiency population, ensuring interpretive services are provided. Serves and protects the DMC Community adhering to policies/procedures and professional standards.

* Educate patients about their rights as needed. Adhere to Downstate Principles of Behavior.

* Proficient in Microsoft Suites, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Working with patient satisfaction data.

* Professional Attire a MUST.

Required Qualifications:

* 1+ year of related experience working with patient satisfaction data.

* Proficient in Microsoft Suite, i.e. Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

* Professional attire.

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Working toward a Bachelor's Degree is preferred.

* Bilingual preferred (Spanish and/or Haitian Creole).

Work Schedule:

Variable Days; 11:00am to 7:00pm

Salary Grade/Rank:

SL-1

Salary Range:

Commensurate with experience and qualifications
