St. Joseph Hospital, located in Bethpage NY, is a not-for-profit full service, 203-bed, community hospital that plays a paramount role in its communities. The Emergency Department cares for over 34,000 patients a year.The hospital has achieved disease specific certification for its Stroke Program which is designated by NYS as a Gold Plus Center. Other vital services include the St. Francis Imaging Center at St. Joseph Hospital, a state-of-the-art cardiac CT scanner, MRI, Vascular Laboratory, Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Medicine, Center for Sleep Medicine, Center for Swallowing, Speech & Voice, and comprehensive in-patient medical, critical care and surgical services.

Job Details:

Wound Care Nurse Practitioner Responsibilities:

  • Provides and manages continuous, medical care service to patients under direct consultation with the Medical Director of Hyperbaric Medicine and Wound Healing Center, and in collaboration with the private medical attending as indicated
  • Responds to the requests of the nursing staff as required to ensure patient care and safety
  • Consults and collaborates with the Hospitalist, private medical attending, and Hyperbaric Medicine and Wound Healing Center to provide continuous care and education to patients in the Emergency Department, inpatient and short stay service
  • Performs medical, examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses, and treatment to outpatients in the Diabetic and Wound Care Center
  • Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions
  • Refers patients to specialists and to relevant patient care components as appropriate. Consults with Medical Director and / or attending whenever patients condition warrants
  • Coordinates the patient care activities of nursing and support staff as required
  • Completes discharge instructions to patients seen in the center
  • Participates in specified health promotion, education and prevention programsFollows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and infection control standards.

  • Makes best efforts to communicate within the group, other members, care team, patients and families
  • Promotes high quality, cost effective care based on the best medical evidence
  • Make best efforts to keep current with developments in medical management patients with diabetes and wounds and related areas through CME Programs, medical literature review and Medical Staff conferences
  • Maintains records and statistics, assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating wound, ostomy, and continence, and specialty tube care
  • Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for the delivery of medical care
  • Knowledge of relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aids. Ability to prescribe dosages and instruct patients in correct usage
  • Ability to deliver effective medical care within an outpatient environment
  • Facilitate communication among physicians and nurses
  • Maintain appropriate Infection Control Standards
  • Assist in the management of occupational exposures by employees

Wound Care Nurse Practitioner Qualifications:

  • Completion of an Accredited Nurse Practitioner Program
  • An unrestricted license as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of New York
  • Two years of clinical experience as a Nurse Practitioner is desired
  • Maintain BLS and ACLS certification
Posted Salary Range:USD $73.97 - USD $92.58 /Hr. :

This range serves as a good faith estimate and actual pay will encompass a number of factors, including a candidates qualifications, skills, competencies and experience. The salary range or rate listed does not include any bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation that may be applicable to this job and it does not include the value of benefits.
