Schedule: On-site Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm

Length of assignment: Until the end of 2024 likely to extend into 2025

Overview: Perform simple to complex microbiological laboratory testing following established written procedures SOPs, Protocols, etc. in support of microbiology and sterilization projects within surgical R D.

Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret test protocols.
  • Conduct microbiological testing per established written procedures such as bioburden testing, including method suitability and bacterial endotoxin testing BET . Participate in method development for any of the above testing or additional capabilities as needed.
  • Conduct reusable device cleaning studies per established written procedures and relevant regulatory guidelines.
  • Arrange for and/or conduct various testing to support the development of novel sterilization technologies, such as sterilization processes, indicator testing, to support the continued evolution of new and existing products and processes.
  • Help to maintain laboratory space and supplies, such as supply ordering, inventory control, equipment and/or material qualification as needed.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of any department SOPs which may include writing new procedures and reviewing existing content.
  • Participate in laboratory investigations as needed.
  • Ability to work well with other functional departments in a development team setting. R D, Regulatory, Medical Affair and Commercial Knowledge of cGMPs and US FDA and ISO Sterilization and Biological Indicator standards required, including but not limited to, bioburden, sterility, endotoxin and reusable device cleaning and sterilization.
  • Requires complex problem solving and analytical skills.

Requirements

  • Extensive laboratory experience. Experience and knowledge with various microbiological techniques and testing methodologies, such as pipetting, plating, counting and general microbial categorization.
  • Familiarity with reusable device processing and assessment of cleaning and sterilization effectiveness a plus.
  • Knowledge of good documentation practices.
  • BS with a 1-4 years relevant experience. MS with a minimum of 0-2 years relevant experience, or PhD with min. of 0-2 years experience
  • Ophthalmic industry experience a strong plus.
