Candidates must be reachable for appointment on the appropriate Civil Service eligible list for the title; OR have one year of permanent service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.ORPROVISIONAL APPOINTMENT In the event that there is no eligible list, candidates who meet the following qualifications may be provisionally appointed:Open to Current State EmployeesYou must be a qualified employee of New York State AND have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Mental Hygiene Staff Development Specialist 1;OR Open to the PublicCandidates must have one year of experience in the preparation and delivery of in-classroom training in a mental hygiene setting. A mental hygiene setting is defined as serving individuals diagnosed with developmental disabilities or mental illness.You may substitute a bachelor's degree in a human services field for the one year of experience provisionally appointed to this position. The human services field includes disciplines related to the following: addiction studies, child and family studies, communication, communication disorders, community health, medicine, education, gerontology, health administration, human services, nursing, nutrition, occupational therapy, physical therapy, psychology, recreation therapy, creative arts therapy, rehabilitation counseling, social.Candidates appointed provisionally must take and pass the next available Civil Service exam used to fill this position. Candidates appointed provisionally must receive a score that is reachable on the resulting eligible list before they can be permanently appointed. Candidates who are disqualified or who do not receive a reachable score may not be retained.In order to be eligible for appointment and to maintain employment, you cannot be listed as an excluded individual or entity on any of the Federal and/or State Medicaid and Medicare exclusion lists (or excluded from any other Federal or Federally assisted program). If you are appointed and subsequently listed as an excluded individual or entity on any of these lists (or excluded from any other Federal or Federally assisted program), you may be terminated from your employment.Duties Description As a Mental Hygiene Staff Development Specialist 2, you would assist higher-level specialists in planning, organizing, and presenting institution and community-based training programs designed to improve the knowledge and abilities of those responsible for care, program, treatment, and well-being of individuals with mental disabilities in various mental hygiene settings. You would directly participate in training programs, gather data to support the development and organization of training programs, identify training needs, and conduct informational sessions concerning training available.
