**Job Summary:** GENERAL SUMMARY

Drive IRA residents accompanied by Direct Support Staff safely to and from designated appointments. The person in this position serves as support to get individuals to appointments and ensures safety of the individuals by complying with all speed limits and safe driving practices.

**Duties & Responsibilities:** **DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**

Chauffeuring IRA residents and staff to hospitals, clinics, doctors offices, laboratories, and any other outside service in Rockland County and New York City. The Driver is responsible for the safety of the residents while in the vehicle and is responsible in communicating with the Direct Support Professionals all pertinent information or recommendations.

Assist residents when necessary and appropriate with any entering and exiting the vehicles.

**Procedure for Medical Appointments:**

The car will be obtained from the nurse or Manager. In the event the car will be parked in a paid facility, the Driver will receive the money from the residence. The worker will obtain a receipt for parking. Some hospitals will give parking voucher for free parking.

Every week, the Driver will receive a copy of the schedule, which will indicate the daily appointments of the residents. This is subject to change considering emergencies and appointments that have been reported after the schedule has been typed. (First priority is the medical appointments)

**SKILLS, ABILITIES AND KNOWLEDGE**

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to peers, consumers, families and other employees of the agency.

Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Ability to interact with and complete assignment in a manner sensitive to the service populations cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.

**Education & Experience** **EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE**

High School Diploma, valid drivers license. NYS valid, non-restrictive drivers license. At least two years of driving experience is required. Some experience or willingness to serve people who are mentally/physically disabled.

**Physical Requirements:** **PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS**

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate clearly. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
