Job Description
Summary of position:
Medical Director, Mental Health (Associate Executive Director (Hospitals), Correctional Health Services
This full-time position reports to the Chief of Mental Health in the Division of Correctional Health Services and is responsible for the overall clinical oversight, management, supervision and innovative development of the psychiatric prescribing staff in the New York City jail system. This position will work in close collaboration with other directors in the Mental Health service to ensure coordinated and comprehensive psychiatric services that incorporate a holistic, evidence-based, and individualized approach to in-jail patient care and post-jail community services. Close collaboration is necessary with the Department of Correction (DOC) leadership and the Medical, Substance Use, Nursing and Pharmacy Directors of CHS. A major component of this position will be training, recruiting and retaining high quality prescribers and providing strong leadership and mentorship for existing prescriber staff.

1) Minimal Requirements
a) M.D. or D.O. degree with active NY State license in good standing
b) Completion of a 4-year psychiatric residency training program
c) Active certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Psychiatry.

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have all of the following:
1. Graduation from a medical school approved by the Council on Medical Education and
Hospitals of the American Medical Association.
2. Completion of an acceptable internship in an approved hospital.
3. A license to practice medicine in the State of New York.
4. Certification by American Board in field of specialization or a faculty appointment of Associate Professor or higher in a medical school recognized by the American Medical Association.
5. Eight (8) years of satisfactory full-time paid experience in field of specialization including at least three (3) years in a supervisory or administrative capacity.(Training and experience required for certification will be credited toward required specialized experience.)
