Job Description:

Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to join the Data, Power & Control Division in Farmingdale, NY. The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for engineer-to-order (ETO) projects. These projects utilize various configurations of existing design platforms. Ensure that custom configurations of existing and new designs meet customer requirements and can be produced within cost constraints.

What Will You Do?

Main Job Duties:

  • Manage and create manufacturing packages for custom-configured cabinet assemblies. Sheet-Metal experience preferred.
  • Develop Bills of Material and setting component routings in SAP.
  • Evaluate customer requirements outlined in various sales documents supplied.
  • Estimate engineering lead time required for all projects.
  • Create 3D CAD assembly files from existing CAD models of previously designed components and accessories - configure per customer requirements. SolidWorks preferred. Sheet-Metal experience preferred.
  • Design custom accessories in accordance with the EIA-310 standard.
  • Create detail part drawings, weldment drawings, assembly drawings, and BOMs. Write and process ECNs.
  • Create complete product structures with routings for the entire manufacturing package in the ERP system. SAP preferred.
  • Interface directly with all areas of production as required to support the progress and completion of projects.

Additional Job Duties:

  • Interface directly with regulatory agencies such as UL. Assist in testing.
  • Design manufacturing fixtures as defined by project requirements.

Required Skills

Education:

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. A Master s in engineering is preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in mechanical engineering.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of sheet metal-based product fabrication methods

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Excellent skills in project management with demonstrated ability to make timely and effective decisions, handle multiple priorities, and effectively delegate responsibilities to ensure high-quality service is delivered on time and within budget. Independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize, organize, and accomplish a diversified workload.
  • Strong computer skills, proficient with word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software, e-mail, and meeting management software. Ability to use internet and web-based resources efficiently and effectively.
  • Must be highly collaborative and able to work in a team-based environment. Promotes an environment that encourages cohesiveness and fosters trust and open communication with the team, peers, and all business partners.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization. Must be an effective listener, able to maintain focus extract necessary information, and validate understanding of the information.

Salary and Benefits:

$80,000 - $95,000 base plus yearly bonus
