Job Description

Silgan Closures, New Castle plant is seeking highly motivated dependable employees to join our team on the production floor.

Silgan provides full time hours, 2 weeks paid vacation, 10 paid holidays and 2 personal paid days off from date of hire. Eligibility for a competitive benefit package is after 60 days of full time employment.

* Know your scheduled days to work 6 months in advance

* 40 hour work weeks with availability to work voluntary overtime.

* Assigned to a steady turn. New hires have a choice (based on availability at time of hire) to work 4PM to midnight or Midnight to 8AM.

* The New Castle plant runs operations 7 days a week, 3 shifts.

* Weekly schedule is 6 days on 2 days off with two 3 day weekends in a row every 6 weeks.

* **Additional compensation considered based on prior experience**. Annual performance reviews and promotional opportunity to quality or material handler positions.

* The Material Handler position requires experience in moving full pallets of materials with the fork truck. Preferably in a manufacturing environment.

* The Material Handler position requires that the employee initially trains as an operator on the lines in order to learn our production processes and products. Upon completing the Fork Truck training, the employee moves to the Material Handling position.

**Basic Purpose**

Monitor the needs of the operators and overall plant to ensure that materials are on hand and levels are appropriate for efficient operation.

**Essential Functions**

* Check the amount of resin in the gaylords (large cardboard containers) periodically to ensure that the quantity levels are sufficient for machine operation.

* Monitor status of product on skids for removal into warehouse for storage.

* Follow appropriate scanning procedures for documentation of product moved to warehouse.

* Set up bulk inventory to ensure sufficient amounts are available for machinery to operate.

* Remove nonconforming material, weigh it, and put it in gaylords.

* Relieve machine operators for breaks.

* Make preparations for the next shift, including removal of final product skids, replenishment of boxes, bags, and skids.

* Fill in as operator as assigned.

****Additional Responsibilities****

* Communicate with employees on prior shift regarding problems.

* Maintain a clean and safe working area.

* Report any food safety and quality problems or concerns to the Plant Quality Manager.

* Perform all duties in accordance with safety rules and procedures, as well as Safe Quality Foods System requirements.

* Perform sweeping, cleaning, sorting duties as necessary.

* Correspond and verbally communicate in a professional manner with vendors and other IPEC personnel.

* Represent Silgan in a professional manner, with a high degree of respect for existing and potential customers.

* Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements Shift - 8 hour shift. Two different days off each week. 40 hour week with opportunity for overtime. Openings are 4pm-midnight or midnight to 8AM

**Minimum Qualifications**

* Person must complete training as a machine operator and prove to be proficient at operating all work stations.

* Experience recognizing food and safety problems or concerns a plus. Training will be provided as needed.

* Must successfully complete training to become certified as a fork-lift operator.

* Must successfully complete scanner training.

Physical

* Frequent bending from the upright position to approximately a 35 degree angle

* Standing for up to 8 hours per day

* Ability to push, pull, or drag empty pallets weighing approx. 50 lbs. from the staging area to your work cell

* Ability to frequently transport a box of product weighing between 15 and 25 lbs. for a short distance
