**Our Mission**

For 39 years, Food Bank For New York City has served as the city's major hunger-relief nonprofit organization working to end food poverty throughout the five boroughs. One of the country's largest food banks, the Food Banks mission is to end hunger in New York City by organizing food, information, and support for community survival and dignity. As the city's hub for integrated food poverty assistance, Food Bank tackles hunger on three fronts: food distribution, income support and nutrition education. Working toward long-term food poverty solutions, Food Bank develops policy based on research to inform community and government efforts.

**Community Kitchen and Food Pantry**

The Community Kitchen and Food Pantry is Food Bank For NYCs direct distribution site located in West Harlem, within the highest meal gap neighborhood in Manhattan. The Community Kitchen and Food Pantry served over 1.3 million meals a year through the food pantry and hot meals program, with special emphasis on seniors and families with children. The food pantry serves shelf-stable food along with fresh produce, meat, and dairy to over 2,500 households a month.

**Primary purpose of the position**

The Pantry Manager is responsible for all aspects of the procurement and distribution of pantry packages to our clients. The Pantry Managers primary responsibilities fall within 3 main areas: Operations, Team, and Program management.

**Operations Management**

Lead day-to-day pantry operations to ensure the program has sufficient resources, distributions run efficiently and program spaces are well maintained.

* Lead the packing and distribution of food

* Place weekly food order through Online Ordering System (OOS)

* Procure nutritionally focused and culturally relevant foods for the community we serve

* Organize food storage to ensure facility is kept sanitary and focused on pest prevention

* Utilize FIFO system in inventory and implement process for other pantry staff to follow

* Implement and monitor food safety guidelines as enforced by Food Bank For New York City

* Ensure all forms needed for distribution are printed and available for staff

* Maintain the client application and intake and process for new client registration

* De-escalate client situations along with security

**Team Management**

Create a team culture that is motivating where all team members (staff/volunteer) feel trained and supported and are able to deliver an excellent customer experience to the clients.

* Train, motivate, supervise and evaluate pantry staff and volunteers

* Coach and develop staff based on their goals and job descriptions

* Establish and enforce team culture and expectations

* Manage volunteer opportunities to meet the workload needs of the program

* Greet and orientate volunteers and ensure an excellent volunteer experience

* Create distribution task and break chart for pantry staff

**Program Management**

Evaluate and develop Pantry program to effectively meet the needs of the diverse community we serve while monitoring program spending and data to inform decision making.

* Monitor program budget and grant spend down strategy

* Work with the Associate Director at the end of the fiscal year to give input of program needs for next fiscal year

* Evaluate programming and look for areas for growth

* Develop and implement strategies for enhancing programming and client experience

* Report on monthly pantry statistics

* Organize and lead special food distributions, seasonally

* Collaborate with other Program Managers on shared goals for the Community Kitchen and Pantry

**Qualifications**

* Customer service orientated with experience working with diverse communities

* Proven team leadership and ability to coach and support staff

* Operationally minded individual with knowledge of creating/implementing procedures

* Strong problem-solving skills and approach; ability to multi-task, prioritize and work efficiently

* Ability to listen, communicate (written and verbal), and follow-up effectively with all staffing levels and external clients/customers.

* Flexibility to adapt to all situations and work varied hours; possibly work weekends or evenings. Ability to perform at high levels in a fast-paced ever-changing work environment.

* Ability to anticipate work needs and follow through with minimum direction.

* Demonstrated success and familiarity utilizing Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.), familiarity and experience using cloud-based data tools preferred
