The Role: Linux DevOps Engineer

Location: New York, NY

Overview:

Linux resource will be part of Infrastructure Automation Team within Public Cloud. This role will be key in working with various infrastructure teams (Security, Networking, Database, Unix) to develop, deploy and support cloud and hybrid applications. Due to the collaborative nature of the role, it will be important that this resource be senior in both DevOps / AWS / technical skills and interpersonal skills. Candidate should have strong communication, teamwork, customer service and leadership skills to partner with broader global technology engineering, information security and line of business teams.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide strong leadership to a global team of Linux engineers, fostering collaboration and driving excellence in system design, implementation, automation, and maintenance.
  • Streamline deployment processes and enhance overall operational efficiency by using CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and automation tools.
  • Lead initiatives to design, implement, automate, and maintain robust and scalable UNIX environments, supporting the diverse needs of Jefferies global operations.
  • Develop Terraform Enterprise and Ansible platforms modules, ensuring the seamless deployment and management of infrastructure as code across the organization.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement innovative solutions, staying ahead of industry trends and best practices.
  • Work with Business technology partners to understand computing requirements and develop solutions.
  • Establish and enforce security measures to protect UNIX environments, adhering to industry standards and compliance requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement by implementing capacity management, monitoring, and optimization efficiency strategies, obsolescence management, and ensuring high availability, resilience, and performance of Linux systems.
  • Manage vendor relationships to evaluate platforms, understand implementation best practices, and troubleshoot operational issues.
  • Manage a team providing 24 x 7 operational support via Follow the Sun weekly work schedule and weekend on-call rotation.

Required Skills:

  • 5+ years experience in AWS
  • 5+ years experience in infrastructure, including compute, network, database, and security.
  • Strong proficiency with Bitbucket/Git, Terraform, Unix, Jenkins, Python, Ansible, and AWS CLI
  • 5+ years experience with autoscaling and container-based solutions like ALB, ASG, Batch and ECS.
  • AWS professional and/or specialty certification, such as Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer a plus
  • Experience in implementing Secure Architectures for private and/or public internet facing systems.
  • Strong understanding of cloud computing concepts, infrastructure, and best practices. Such as K8S, Containers, Serverless, Microservices
  • Strong understanding of IaC, CI/CD Pipelines, CloudFormation, Bamboo etc.
  • Strong understanding of networking and internet protocols and distributed systems
  • Experience designing and developing resilient, highly available and scalable systems for the cloud.

Preferred Skills:

  • Working knowledge of Shared Responsibility models
  • Prior experience building out CI/CD pipelines.
  • Azure experience a plus
