Job Description:

Belkin Burden Goldman, LLP, a premier New York City real estate firm with headquarters near Grand Central Station, is seeking a highly motivated and intelligent legal secretary. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a seasoned real estate law firm with a leading reputation in the industry with very competitive benefits. The position is full-time and requires the individual to be present in the office five days per week.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide administrative support to an assigned group of attorneys.
  • Draft, prepare and serve legal documents via hand-delivery, email, mail service (fed ex, Express, certified, certificate of mailing, certified RRR etc.).
  • Answer all calls from the Firm s main telephone line, document messages and ensure timely responses by the appropriate person.
  • Maintain calendars as needed.
  • Service of large mailings upon tenants and/or adversaries etc.
  • Word processing skills, i.e., preparation of Table of Authorities and Table of Contents, editing of correspondence and legal documents, redlining, editing pdfs and correcting general document formatting issues.
  • Adhere to all of the Firm s policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned on an as needed basis.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • A minimum of 1 year of legal secretarial experience, preferably real estate litigation.
  • Familiarity with State agencies (i.e. New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal (DHCR) filing process would be a plus.
  • Experience with landlord/tenant law a plus, especially preparation of and familiarity with rent demands, cure notices, termination notices and petitions for non-payments and holdovers.
  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills.
  • Computer savvy with excellent knowledge of iManage and Microsoft applications.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and writing skills.
  • Ability to independently multitask, prioritize and manage time effectively.

The compensation will be dependent on several factors including but not limited to years of experience involving these roles and responsibilities, years of experience within the industry, education, etc.
