Job Description:

The Writing Initiative at Binghamton University invites applications for four full-time lecturer positions with three-year renewable contracts at a competitive salary to begin September 1, 2024. The teaching load for all four positions will be 3/3, with additional responsibilities that include leading weekly pedagogy group meetings, mentoring and acting as the instructor of record for several graduate instructors and adjuncts, conducting classroom observations, participating in our pre-fall orientation, preparing professional development workshops, and engaging in curriculum assessment and development.

Candidates should have experience teaching first-year writing courses focused on academic, argumentative writing and/or experience teaching professional writing courses. We are also looking for candidates who will be able to teach existing courses and develop new courses for our Writing Studies Minor. Specifically, we are looking for candidates that have training and experience in one or more of the following areas: professional and technical writing, digital media, academic, civic, and cultural rhetorics, and the theory and practice of writing pedagogy. We are especially looking for candidates with experience teaching professional writing.

Requirements:

Minimal Qualifications:

+ Master's specializing in rhetoric, composition, writing studies, or a related field

+ At least two years of experience and demonstrated success teaching academic writing to diverse students at the college/university level

Preferred Qualifications:

+ PhD specializing in rhetoric, composition, writing studies, or a related field

+ Demonstrated excellence in writing pedagogy and dedication to student success

+ Demonstrated ability to work with diverse students with a wide range of skills and abilities, including multilingual and developing writers

+ Demonstrated experience in professional writing, digital rhetoric, cultural rhetoric, civic discourse, public advocacy writing, and/or writing across the curriculum

+ Demonstrated experience in curriculum design and assessment practices

+ Demonstrated commitment to professional development and engagement in the field of rhetoric and composition
