Reporting to the Paint Department Manager, the Lead Painter is responsible for painting and treating scenery and maintaining high-quality finishes of custom projects, while also managing the efforts of a team. The Lead Painter will work closely with the Project Managers, Department Manager and other Fabrication Department Leads to make sure they meet the established quality standards and timelines of all projects. They must have knowledge of finishing, surface preparation, paint application, and scenic treatments specific to special events, staging, theater, and retail displays.

**Duties include, but are not limited to:**

* Managing finishing and painting of pieces for individual projects and delegating tasks amongst team of painters

* Coordinating with other Department Leads to support efficient work flow

* Working on projects as outlined by Department Manager, Project Managers and other Fabrication Department Leads and adhering to the department's production schedule

* Responsible for requesting all materials for individual projects

* Timely inventory of supplies and communicating with Department Manager about ordering needs

* Working from technical drawings, color renderings and build lists to verify color specifications and paint with attention to detail and quality

* Preparing onsite paint kits for thorough and effective completion of touch ups

* Leading paint and finishing crews onsite and effectively communicating with Project Managers and Lead Carpenters about install needs

* Maintaining best practices and sound finishing and painting techniques

* Appropriately packing paint kits for designated jobs

* Effectively communicating, both orally and in writing, and remaining professional at all times

* Ensuring proper safety practices are followed, personal protective equipment is worn at all times, and that a safe and efficient workspace is maintained

**The ideal candidate will have:**

* 3+ years experience of finishing and painting in a scenic fabrication shop

* Extensive knowledge of surface preparation and paint application

* Ability to do custom color mixing and faux finishing

* Willingness to work overtime, nights, and weekends when necessary to
