Job Description:

The Knox School, of St. James NY, a nonsectarian independent college preparatory boarding and day school for grades six through twelve with a post-graduate year is expanding its faculty and currently accepting applications to fill several teaching vacancies in the following areas:

  • Physics (standard, AP Physics I, AP Physics II, AP Physics C)

This is a full-time position that will begin on August 19, 2024, and run through June 6, 2025. Hours are 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Hired candidates will receive a yearly calendar of additional mandatory events that bring together the entire school community.

The Knox School provides students with a strong and supportive academic program, a familial environment, small class sizes, and enriching arts and athletic programs.

As a teacher at The Knox School, you will become a member of a dynamic academic team led by the Dean of Academics and will be responsible for teaching students of varying English proficiencies. The entire faculty and staff at The Knox School are here for one purpose - to promote student success in a positive and encouraging environment.

Teachers at The Knox School typically teach 5 classes in their subject areas, but may be asked to teach a 6th, depending on the needs of the student population. Additionally:

  • Lesson plans for the week ahead are to be submitted to Department Chairs via email no later than the Sunday evening before the week starts
  • Blackbaud is to be kept up-to-date, inclusive of, but not limited to:
  • Posting of nightly homework assignments no later than 5 p.m.
  • Inputting grades no less than once a week
  • Teachers are assigned a small group of students with whom they meet once every other week during Advisory
  • Teachers will lead and facilitate one extra-curricular club, once per week during Community Period
  • Teachers will serve on a small team of Class Advisors to one grade level
  • Teachers will be available to provide extra-help to students during Community Period
  • Teachers will be responsible for fulfilling two terms of an afternoon duty (i.e. coaching, detention monitor, after-school enrichment)
  • Teachers will complete other tasks as requested by Department Chairs and/or Administrators

Our ideal candidate is an energetic and articulate team player. This person will have excellent communication and organizational skills, strong classroom management skills, and will be passionate in promoting college-level work to our students. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in his or her subject area. Preference will be given to a strong candidate with a Masters degree and/or teacher certification.

Faculty housing is available on a limited basis but is not mandatory for employment.
