Qualifications and RequirementsAll lateral candidates must:have a Juris Doctorate (JD) Degree from an ABA-accredited law school;be a current New York State Bar member in good standing;reside in New York State as of the effective date of employment with the NCDAO;7+ years of practicing criminal law with felony trial experience; have a strong work ethic; andmake a two-year commitment to employment at the NCDAO; Duties and ResponsibilitiesDevelop training programs to educate DA staff and law enforcement partners on hate crime statutes.Liaise with law enforcement partners to establish a notification system pertaining to hate crime related incidents. Work with the Office of Community Affairs and Office Immigrant Affairs in developing outreach programs to educate the public on hate crime statutes and explain hate crime reporting options.Coordinate and attend meetings at schools, churches, synagogues, and community centers to discuss intricacies of hate crimes.Handle all felony & misdemeanor-level hate crime cases from inception to disposition; serve as lead counsel at trialParticipate in on-call duties during the course of active hate crime investigations.
