**Background**

Dia Art Foundation was established in 1974 for the purpose of collecting, commissioning, and presenting major works of art made in the 1960s onward. Today it consists of eight permanent sites across the United States and Germany, as well as three changing exhibition spaces in New York State: Dia Chelsea in New York City, Dia Beacon in the Hudson Valley, and Dia Bridgehampton on Long Island. Dia is taken from the Greek word for through and conveys the foundations role as a facilitator of meaningful artistic experiences that can be encountered in single and repeated visits.

**Position Summary:**

Dia Bridgehampton is one of Dias eleven sites in New York State and the western United States. The site was designed to permanently house an installation of works by Dan Flavin alongside a program of temporary exhibitions. With Dias support, Flavin renovated this turn-of-the-century firehouse, then church, converting its vestibule and second floor to a permanent display of his signature works, nine sculptures in fluorescent light (196381). Today, Dia continues to maintain the Dan Flavin Art Institute and presents yearly exhibitions by artists primarily residing or working on Long Island in the ground-floor gallery.

The Part Time Gallery Attendant position provides a positive experience for visitors, safeguards the artwork, and is a local presence to assist with the facilitys maintenance.

Candidates must be available for work Friday, Saturday and/or Sunday from 11:30 am to 6:00 pm and have flexibility to occasionally cover shifts for colleagues, and live in the Bridgehampton area.

**Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:**

* Greet visitors to Dia Bridgehampton, respond to their queries, and ensure they have a positive visitor experience while at the site; provide information about the collection as well as Dias history, mission, and sites

* Monitor all safety regulations and demonstrate the ability to assist in case of an emergency

* Assist the Caretaker with special events and VIP visits as needed

* Perform light maintenance of the building and grounds prior to, during, and after public hours; this may include sweeping and vacuuming, cleaning and stocking the bathrooms, dusting, picking up trash in the yard, shoveling snow, weeding, and changing fluorescent bulbs

* Provide private tours, as needed; tours may sometimes fall on days when the museum is closed

* Inform supervisors of necessary repairs to the building and grounds; call attention to other issues and questions as appropriate

* Act as back-up for Caretaker as needed

**General/Other Responsibilities and Duties:**

* Participate in Visitor Services department trainings and other cross-site meetings

**Education, Certification, Experience:**

* High School diploma required; training in or knowledge of contemporary art preferred

* Experience in a customer-facing role

* Experience with light building maintenance

**Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:**

* Must have excellent customer service and communication skills to assist with visitor questions and provide tours when needed

* As the sole attendant in the gallery, must be comfortable working independently

* Must be able to respond to building and gallery needs during off-hours

* Knowledge of Dia Bridgehamptons collection and special exhibitions, as well as Dias history and collection

**Working Conditions and Physical Demands:**

* Work will take place primarily indoors, with occasional outside tasks in varying temperatures

* Must be comfortable working alone in the gallery space

* Must be able to lift, carry, or move up to 30 lbs.

* Must be able to perform light maintenance as listed in above duties
