Job Details:

Functions as the Executive Director of the Margaretville Hospital campus and participates in the planning, coordination and implementation of all day-to-day operations of the hospital/nursing home. This position assists in the management and coordination of all hospital/nursing home activities including strategic planning and budgetary planning, policy development and Medical Staff activities. Provides guidance in regulatory compliance and represents the hospital/nursing home in public and external affairs. Participates in various local and regional community relations activities. Performs other duties as assigned by the Vice President, Operations of HealthAlliance.

Responsibilities:

Clinical Practice

+ Participates in the development and implementation of CQI projects, goals, outcome and standards.

+ Ensures professional and regulatory standards are implemented and maintained.

+ Coordinates the daily operations of the hospital/nursing home and maximizes efficiencies and integration opportunities.

+ Works directly with the Medical Director, the Medical Staff, Clinical Staff, and Department specific Medical Directors to ensure high quality clinical services.

+ Fosters the development of partnership arrangements with physicians

Human Resources Management

+ Ensures the implementation and maintenance of an information and communication system that promotes optimal patient care, staff satisfaction, and attainment of established goals for the hospital/nursing home and identified ancillary departments.

+ Develops and maintains hospital and nursing home policies and uses them as a basis for both clinical and management decisions.

+ Assures the development, implementation and evaluation of programs which promote the recruitment and retention of staff members.

+ Ensures that staffing is assessed and adjustments made when necessary based on acuity, census and credentials of staff.

+ Ensures resources are adjusted to ensure professional and regulatory care requirements are met.

+ Ensures that programs that enhance/maintain staff competencies are implemented in areas of responsibility.

+ Ensures the timely completion of performance evaluations.

Financial Management

+ Develops and maintains the hospital and nursing home budgets that are fiscally responsible based on data, goals, and objectives that promote safe, effective, and appropriate patient care with the assistance of Department Managers. Formulates long and short term plans based on the strategic plan growth objectives of the hospital and nursing home.

+ Assists in negotiating contracts, new programs/services in accordance with corporate objectives and provides feedback on any new programs.

+ Ensures Department Managers are responsible for managing their monthly costs and spending to stay within the monthly budgeted variance.

+ Take an active role in preparation and application of grant opportunities.

Communications/Public Relations

+ Demonstrates efforts to maintain and/or improve intra-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary communication and cooperation. Promotes a positive image of the campuses through effective interaction with patients, visitors, physicians, other hospital/nursing/ancillary department employees, and the general public.

+ Assists in the development of the campus marketing strategy.

+ Maintains a community presence that is professional and courteous.

Other Job Specific Expectations

+ Attends weekly Executive Committee meetings in Kingston plus attend Departmental meetings that are necessary.

+ Assumes Administrator On Call duties (scheduled in rotation).

+ Participates in activities and functions on and off campus.

+ Performs any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Experience:

+ 7+ years' experience in administration; preferably in an acute care or CAH setting. Evidence of career advancement and progressive increase in responsibilities within the healthcare environment.

Education:

+ Bachelor's required. Masters preferred; MBA/MHA or MS Hospital Administration

Licenses/Certifications:

+ NYS Licensed Nursing Home Administrator required
