Description:

Our client, a cultural organization established in 2022, is actively seeking an Executive Director who will have day-to-day operational and administrative responsibility for the Museum.

  • Manages aspects such as public programming, exhibits, and grant writing that support the Museum s mission and vision. This includes overseeing visitor and membership services, archives and collections, digitization, research requests, communications - mailings, social media, website, IT systems - and facility maintenance.
  • Ensure donation acknowledgements are written and sent and that a donor and membership database is maintained.
  • Provide leadership and oversight to all aspects of daily operations and works well with staff, volunteers and interns while assisting donors, visitors, tour groups and researchers.
  • Work closely with the Museum Board of Directors, guiding and supporting as needed, and attend monthly board and committee meetings, providing a monthly report to the board on the museum s activities. Help the board develop strategic plans, fundraising, and membership growth.
  • Assist with the preparation of the annual budget, provide fiscal and financial management and work within the organization s budget.
  • Represent the Museum in a professional manner to the community, participating in city, county and state heritage and cultural activities that promote the Museum and its mission.
  • Develop and nurture partnerships with: donors , schools, government agencies and the community while focusing on accessibility, equity and inclusion, and a desire to create and contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Provide leadership and direction in the development of short- and long-range plans and projects, including but not limited to working with the board of directors with respect to capital fundraising and the design, planning, construction and equipping of the museum building.
  • Supervise all paid and volunteer staff; oversee collection management and volunteer training for best practices in collections and archives.
  • Performs or oversees the performance of a variety of administrative activities, including budgeting and financial management, website updates, and social media communication and outreach.

Qualifications:

  • A Master s Degree in museum studies, archival studies, social sciences, art history, or a related field. Knowledge of museum management best practices and procedures preferred.
  • Experience in capital campaign management, donor cultivation, and grant writing to secure the necessary funds for museum construction.
  • Experience in media relations and public relations.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory capacity in a museum department or management-level museum experience preferred; previous experience working collaboratively with a Board of Directors highly desirable.
  • Skills in planning, organizing and operating public informational and educational facilities, programs and exhibits.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, with ability to create and execute public presentations, and interact daily with volunteers and visitors.
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office applications/programs, social media platforms; knowledge of QuickBooks a plus.
  • Knowledge and passion for fine art and New York African-American history.
  • Valid driver s license or identification card.

Additional Info:

  • Reports to Board of Directors full time
  • Salary and Benefits - $95-125K per year commensurate with experience, medical insurance up to $500 month, 10 days paid vacation and national holidays.
  • Schedule This is a full-time position, working some weekends and evenings. The Executive Director is required to be present at all board meetings, events and programs.
