INTERNSHIP SUMMARY: Here is an opportunity to apply your education for practical use in a production environment. A mixture of very new and older equipment in the same factory provides a wide array of opportunities for creative equipment and control solutions to reduce waste, increase productivity, and improve safety. Responsibilities Learn how to work safely inside electrical panels Learn how PID controls work Learn to connect laptop with temperature controllers and PLC Gain practical experience tuning PID loops controlling multiple extruder zone temperatures Gain practical experience programming PLCs - programable logic controllers by modifying PLC program to improve flow of tape rolls moving on a large conveyor system, running only when product is present. Two projects: Control improvement project to improve PID control loop tuning for heating and cooling temperature control zones for extruders PLC programming refinements to improve flow of tape rolls moving on large conveyor system. Also, PLC programming to reduce energy usage by automatically stopping conveyors when no product is present and restarting as needed. Qualifications The preferred candidate would be pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or Computer Engineering We want a self-starter with a strong desire to learn and apply knowledge for practical use. A desire to work with machine controls is important. AutoCAD ability would be beneficial.
