Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

Overview:

Respond to emergencycalls. Take patients from their homes, nursing homes, dialysis appointments, etc., to emergency rooms, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and vice versa. Take vital signs for patients as well as assess them mentally and physically. Provide oxygen or any other form of care necessary during transport, making sure patients are well during the entirety of the transport. Complete patient care paperwork for all patients. Assist other units with lifts and take patients up and down multiple flights of stairs. Ensure tech bag and truck are fully stocked with all equipment before tour, including regulator, stethoscope, blood pressure cuffs, oxygen, gloves, etc.

Qualifications:

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED/TASC required
• Current NYS EMT certification
• Current BCLS certification
• Valid New York State drivers license (current and without violations)
• Requires frequent lifting, carrying, and balancing of up to 125 lbs. (250 lbs. with assistance) up or down stairs, ramps, inclines, and in and out of ambulance
• Working knowledge of electrocardiogram monitoring equipment; able to operate a computer with working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel
• Strong customer service skills

Schedule

• All positions are in hospitals and nursing homes. These facilities are open 24 hours/7 days each week.
• General shift availability:
  • Days (7a-3p or 8a-4p)
  • Evenings (3p-11p or 4p-12a)
  • Nights (11p-7a or 12a-8a)
• Every other weekend is usually required for all positions.
