Position Description

Title: Division Chief of Geriatrics and Director of the Center on Aging

Associate Professor/Professor, tenure track

Location: Department of Medicine Division of Geriatrics

Responsibilities:

The Chief of Geriatrics will lead a division committed to excellence in clinical care, research and education. This person will also serve as the Director of the Center on aging at the University of Vermont.

The Director of the Center on Aging will coordinate and support collaborative gerontological and geriatric research on the campus of the University of Vermont. The director will foster educational opportunities in gerontology and geriatrics for students, staff, faculty, the lay community, and health care and human service providers throughout the state and region. The Director will work to translate research outcomes and educational activities into policy and excellent practice across the medical and human service landscape of the community that we serve.

This position will ensue the delivery of high-quality care and services to elderly patients, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, develop and implement strategic initiatives, and contribute to the overall growth and success of the Geriatrics Division. The Chief will provide leadership to the Geriatrics Division, setting strategic goals and objectives aligned with the Department s mission and vision. Specific duties include fostering the career development of faculty and other professionals, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment, promoting teamwork and excellence in patient care, and fostering the academic mission of the Division and Department.

The goal of this position is to provide leadership on best practices in geriatric medicine and lead comprehensive plans for care of elderly patients within the region. This person will establish and monitor quality and performance metrics to ensure the delivery of high-quality care and collaborate with Departmental and Network quality improvement initiatives. The Chief of Geriatrics will represent the Geriatrics Division in institutional committees, meetings, and conferences. The Chief of Geriatrics will collaborate with other divisions, and departments across the network to develop integrated care models and improve care transitions for elderly patients, and also participate in community outreach related to care of the elderly.

The Chief of Geriatrics will oversee the provision of educational and training opportunities for medical students, residents, and fellows, to foster their understanding and competence in geriatric medicine. There will be opportunities to develop continuing education programs for healthcare professionals in geriatrics.

Qualifications:

Experienced leader and accomplished physician scholar. The ideal candidate will be a physician board certified or eligible in Geriatrics with proven leadership experience and a commitment to clinical care, research and education. This position requires extensive knowledge and experience in geriatric medicine, as well as strong leadership, research and managerial skills. The Chief of Geriatrics-Director of the Center on Aging will

be an experienced clinician with an established research program, who brings a strong track record for mentoring faculty at all stages of career development.
