Group Description: The market for distressed debt and special situations has grown substantially with the rise in rates specifically in middle market sponsor deals. This to be a substantial market opportunity over the coming years to invest in and restructure over levered companies. The Distressed & Special Situations team is a principal-focused trading desk within Jefferies Fixed Income division. The team deploys the firm s capital for proprietary investment strategies and facilitates client transactions, investing in a broad array of products including corporate bonds, corporate loans, trade claims, post-reorg equities, litigation claims, structured products and public equities. The team seeks to actively participate in restructurings in order create a successful investment outcome where appropriate. This may include, joining/leading ad hoc groups, leading or participating in new money solutions and negotiating exchanges and/or restructures. The team has been together for 7 years and has a combined 100+years operating in the space.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Significant responsibilities related to researching public and private companies and developing trade recommendations. These responsibilities will include the following:

  • The candidate will be working closely with senior analysts to underwrite credits in order to take principal and trading positions across the capital structures as well as direct lending via the firm s balance sheet
  • The candidate will learn technical and analytical skills to lead research on potential trading and investing opportunities, and will have significant exposure to clients, pitching ideas and partnering on investments
  • Responsibilities include analyzing public and private companies for trade recommendations or capital solutions. Legal and investment analysis of court filings, debt documents, financial projections, and preparation of investment memos and other related materials

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree and 1-4 years of sell-side, buy-side or leveraged finance or restructuring investment banking experience
  • Established technical skills including valuation and modelling combined with strong verbal and communication skills
  • Detail oriented and strong organizational skills. Must have the ability to track, manage and prioritize multiple workstreams.
  • Resourceful self-starter, able to work autonomously and as team player. Intellectually curious.
  • Financial modeling experience including corporate, credit, and/or structured product analysis

Primary Location Full Time Salary Range of $100,000 - $150,000. The salary offered will take into consideration an individual s experience level and qualifications.
