Job Description:

Akkodis is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for a Direct Hire position with a client located in Lancaster, NY. To be considered for this position you must have 4-7 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience in design engineering

Pay/Salary Range: $70,000/yr - $80,000/yr

Mechanical Design Engineer job responsibilities include:

This position is responsible to support product development activities to ensure that the desired design performance is achieved meeting the applicable customer, regulatory, and company policies. The Design Engineer will ensure a successful transfer of newly developed product to production, while supporting design concept phases through launch. This is a team-oriented effort with in the department and other parts of the organization for success.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Creates and revises designs (Interface, Detail, Assembly), with Designer; computes angles, weights, surface areas, dimensions, radii, clearances, tolerances, and locations of features

Makes final decision on drawings, checking dimension of parts, materials to be used, relation and interaction of one part to another, and relation of various parts of whole system or project.

Utilizes knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, materials, plating, and other physical sciences to complete system design.

Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, and procedures

Utilize prior mechanical design experience and apply on-the-job training to meet product deliverables within schedule & budget constraints and to solve tasks through technical skills and analytic thinking.

Communicate with Manufacturing, Quality and Project Engineers, on changes, concerns and collaboration needs for the product

Generate development, qualification plans (verification and validation) and compliance methods based on customer and regulatory specifications

Prepare and present technical data to internal and external customers

Share engineering information and promote open dialogue

Assure proper documentation of technical data generated and the communication of results for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor s degree in Engineering, or related field (MBA/Master s degree preferred)

7 years industrial manufacturing experience, preferably in a process-oriented related industry.

Computer skills must include Microsoft Office applications, MRP (preferably Oracle) and 3D mechanical design.

Experience with LabVIEW software is desirable

Candidate must have experience working with an MRP system to create routings and part number specific work instructions.

Comprehensive knowledge of modern manufacturing and production standard costing concepts and practices.

Experience with formal continuous improvement tools such as 5S and other Lean Manufacturing concepts, PPAP, creation of Mfg. Control Plans, Value Stream Mapping and Cell layout techniques.

Strong analytical skills coupled with the ability to communicate complex analyses and concepts to all levels of the business team.

Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously

Demonstrated ability to perform with high levels of ambiguity and complexity

Other skills and qualifications

Education -

Required - Bachelor degree (BS) or equivalent from a four-year college or technical school - Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering

Preferred MS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering

Experience

Required 4-7 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience in design engineering

Preferred Experience in gaseous products and safety equipment

Special Knowledge/Skills

Required -

Understanding of and experience with engineering testing methods

Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Experience and proficiency with technical writing; strong communication skills

Preferred

Able to perform simulation using Solid works or MATLAB Simulink and validate with performance testing

Experience with RTCA DO-160 and/or MIL-STD-810G environmental test standards
