In 2016 the Gabert Library was one of three academic libraries in the United States to receive the Excellence in Academic Libraries Award from the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), and in 2019 the HCCC Tutoring Center received the Frank L. Christ Outstanding Learning Center Award for Two-Year Institutions. In 2019, the College joined Achieving the Dream, a network of high achieving community colleges, part of its expanding effort toward continuous improvement in student success. HCCC has partnerships with every major four-year college and university in the greater New Jersey-New York area and beyond, accommodating seamless transfer of credits for further undergraduate and graduate education. Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment, the Dean of Student Success will provide dynamic leadership for the areas of Advisement, Career Services, Transfer Pathways, and the Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF). The Dean will be well-versed in programs and initiatives that help improve outcomes for all students and will be a key leader in HCCC's student success work. The Dean of Student Success will integrate diverse resources and technologies, collaborate with college constituents, and foster an organizational climate that promotes diversity, equity and inclusion, encourages innovation, and provides effective leadership to staff and students. Position responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Participating in the execution of the College's Student Success Action Plan , which was adopted through HCCC's partnership with Achieving the Dream .
  • Supervising four key student success departments: Advisement, Transfer Pathways, Career Services, and the Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF).
  • Developing programs and coordinating activities to promote best practices in advisement, transfer, career services, and EOF.
  • Integrating data-informed and evidence-based practices into the development of College-wide retention initiatives.
  • Identifing and implementing programs and strategies to address equity gaps.
  • Collaborating across campus to improve the student experience from entry through graduation.
  • Aligns department goals, employee development, and student success strategies with the College's 2021-2024 Hudson Is Home Strategic Plan and 2021-2024 Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Action Plan .
  • Collaborating with the Executive Directors to ensure parity of services and programs for students enrolled at the North Hudson Campus and Secaucus Centers.
  • Providing ongoing leadership, training, and supervision to staff.
  • Participating on various college committees.
Position Requirements Minimum of a Master's degree in Psychology, Student Personnel, Higher Education or a related field required, with a minimum of five years of experience in program management, design, implementation, assessment, and administration. Ability to think strategically, develop and implement policies and procedures, and make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments required. Superior verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and negotiation skills required. Preferred Requirements Experience working with a culturally and socioeconomically diverse college population is highly desirable. Proficiency with various computer software programs, including Microsoft Office, project management tools, student success platforms (e.g., EAB Navigate), and student information systems (e.g., Ellucian-Colleague). Experience writing and administering grants preferred.
